When to wax?

I have heard that it is a good idea NOT to wax your car until the paint had "cured." Has anyone else hear this?

How soon before I can slap some Zaino on this bad boy?

I doubt. I waxed mine soon after picking it up to prevent big bird bombs.

I asked the dealer about that......

And they said go ahead and wax after three months......Which is like a normal wax schedule. My BMW I used to own, was to be waxed after 6 months. Break in period was longer too! I had to wait til 2500! Bimmers are fun cars, but no comparison to the TL's reliability.

I waxed mine a week after I bought it. I was under the impression that shipping time+time on the lot would be enough for the paint to cure

I had also heard that three months was about right. You can check your build date on the driver's side label.

Hmmm, that means that my TL's paint only currred for like 16 - 18 days. Got it July 29, build date is like July 3 or 4th if my memory serves me correctly. Will check it today....

Lightbulb re: Waxing

You shouldn't have to wait at all. I know people who waxed it the weekend after they picked it up. Allowing the paint to "cure" is something you used to have to do back in the day.... no adays there's really no need to wait. I mean, the dealer washes and waxes it before you pick it up, don't they?

The dealer washs and waxes because during the shipment process they use a harsh chemical to protect it while shipping. I guess there is nothing wrong with waxing the car sooner then three months. I've noticed myself that Japanese cars and paints are not as tough to maintain as German. If waxed too soon or too much with my Bimmer, it stains or looks kind of dull in some areas. Where as my Acura I've wash polished and waxed twice after pick up and it looks shinier then ever!

Talking

paint from factory cars is already cured b/c they bake it. When you re-paint the car at a shop, that is when you have to wait for the paint to cure.

Angry The dealer waxes the car

When I tried to take delivery of my TL-S, the dealership had already waxed the car. So, it ok to wax/polish it ASAP (obviously )

Since I did not take that car, due to quality problems, I asked them NOT to wax the next one. That way I will be able to get Zaino directly on it, without the Dawn stripping washdown.
