What adds the extra 35 HP to the TL-S?

What parts did acura change on the tl to give the tl-s the added 35 HP? I was thinking of getting headers / CAI but wondering if its possible to put some TL-S parts into my 99 TL first, since the type s' enjoy a bigger HP gain from headers/ CAI then the tl-ps do. Would this work, or does the layout of the engine bay change on the tl-s, making this impossible?

headers would definitely help a lot. A TL-P is never going to get up to the speed of a TL-S. Sorry!

Although I understand your sentiment, never say never as there are plenty of things that be done depending on how serious your are.

what are you talking about? I would say having a CAI, Headers, CT Exhaust, UR Cranks, VAFC would get you pretty much head to head with a TL-S.

I have a friend with a 99TL and he has all of the above. We went at it, and he was very close to me the whole time. I took him by about 1 car length off the line, and he stayed like that till about 160. His car fell asleep at 160 and mine kept going, but I would still say he's just as fast as me.

All he would need to smoke my a$$ would be a Comptech SC, and a 50-75 shot of NOS and he'd be spanking my a$$ on any aspect.

Never say never...

There is a larger throttle body, 2-stage intake manifold, larger exhaust pipes, higher compression, don't even start on the suspension differences...etc......

Wouldn't it be less expensive to just get the TL-S, as opposed to the extensive mods? You would still have $$ left to mod the type s.

Oops, my bad, I was thinking getting a TL-P up to a modded TL-S. My fault, I didn't write that very clear. I guess I was thinking my car. Unless it's Nos'd I don't think a modded TL-P will be up to speed with a modded TL-S. Does that make more sense? my bad, sorry for the confusion.

So higher compression requires the tl-s engine right, it wouldn't be some easy mod? what about the larger throttle body, and the 2 stage intake manifold, can you put the tl-s ones of those onto a tl-p? It just seems like a waste to add headers / CAI when you get the same amount of HP from the tl-s parts, then have an even bigger increase of HP when you add the headers / CAI. I guess if it was easy / cheap people would already have done it, but I thought it might be worth a shot.

Unhappy

For a price just about anything's possible:
For the higher compression you'd need new pistons ($$$), or maybe you could shave the head but then you may have timing belt issues. I would think that in order to properly use the 2 stage intake manifold ($$$) you would need the Type-S computer ($$$); isn't it a computer controlled butterfly valve?
I don't know for sure but these are some considerations I think you'd need to make.

IMHO, it'd be cheaper to just get a TL-S and upgrade further.

Along with the Type-S pistons you'de probably need a new crankshaft. Remember, also, the Type-S engine has cylinder liners in the block.

This would be the most simplest and easiest way.

If you're going to spend money on mods to be close to a Type-S output, why not just go to a wrecker and see if they can score you a CL/ TL Type-S motor. Or better yet a 3.5 MDX engine (better torque). I'm sure there's some out there.
