VSA, Check Engine, and /!\ Lights - 03 TL Type-S

Hey guys, so I’m wondering if I could get some advice from you regarding some problems that have popped up recently. I did a couple searches for the vsa light and wasn’t sure if they applied to me 100%

So, last week I was driving home from work and the VSA, check engine, and /!\ lights all came on at the same time but I didn’t notice anything wrong with the car. I parked the car, turned it off, started it back up and only the check engine light came on. Unfortunately I didn’t have any time last weekend to take the car in so I put it off until this weekend. Well the lights started to come on again this week when I would be driving to the office or back home and would always turn off when I restarted the car, except for the check engine light which remained lit at all times. So, this morning on my way to work I’m driving, eventually all three lights are on, change lanes and hit the gas to accelerate because there was a car coming up pretty quickly on my rear and then I got a pretty decent scare. When I hit the pedal to accelerate I felt the engine rev up but no change in speed, because the roads were wet I assumed I lost traction so I released the gas pedal, and it felt like the car was moving forward freely and then what felt like the breaks engaged, then disengaged and everything was back to normal. I crossed my fingers and hoped it was just the wet road that caused that. Everything was working normally, aside from the vsa, check engine, and /!\ lights being lit up, so I continued driving to work. But then the exact same thing happened on the onramp onto an intersecting freeway with dry roads. To say the least I’m not too excited about this lol

Based on that incident what do you guys think is going on? Please don’t tell me my tranny is about to go, I might cry lol I was thinking maybe there is something wrong with the sensors causing them to bug out and in turn cause this sort of thing? I have no experience so that’s just a wild guess. I appreciate any comments

Thanks everyone -Nick

Sounds like the tranny is going/gone... Get the codes that will help narrow it down

Sounds like your tranny is going, should be the dreaded codes of P0740 and or P1740

Same thing happened to me, had the tranny rebuilt. $2500 later, I am back in action. 3 year/36,000 mile warranty as well.

Most likely the transmission is going to give out and eventually you wont be able to move atl, it happened to my car luckily we still had warranty on it so we got a brand new transmission for free

Well this sucks, thanks for the replies

So would the best fix be buy a 06/07 Accord V6 tranny and have them swapped?

I noticed people referring to some "list" of compatible transmissions on the forum but I haven't actually been able to find anything, is there one?

All I can say is thank God I just got my tax return lol

have a parts store ck the codes for you- its free
report back with those
It sounds bad but you never know when other things will cause similar symptoms

how many miles on the car? original trans or warranty replacement (blue paint on bolt heads)
whats the atf color- red or brown or black..smells like atf or like burnt sugar?

get your codes read to make sure but your symptoms sound like a dying trans.

we all agree,,
but I wonder if its.. only because the 1 time OP thinks it was free revving then felt like brake on??? but not all the time slipping between gears--when the clutches go bad--they really go bad

codes will give us the needed clues~

I'll get the codes read tomorrow and let you guys know what pops up. The car has 139k miles on it with a warranty replacement tranny. I haven't had a chance yet but I'll probably give the atf a sniff at lunch

haha thanks guys

if it is the tranny, it'll definitely hurt my wallet, but I'll probably feel relieved after it's fixed, the fear of it failing on me during my commute has been haunting me since I bought the car lol

if its the really bad news- an accord trans from the auto recycler (junkyard)
is the current hot option to spending 2500 on yours,,
total $ with install about half of that!

Hey guys, so I took my car in today to a friends shop and had the codes pulled. It was a pretty fun drive, lots of hard shifting, slipping, and hitting 4k rpm.

Got more than a few misfire codes and a tranny code

P0301
P0302
P0303
P0305
P0306
P0700

What do you guys think?

Oh, and I was going to take my car to O'Reilly's to have the codes read but they told me auto parts stores in Cali are not allowed to pull codes because you're required to have a mechanic license?

Ca smog laws prevent parts stores from doing free scans
Its so smog shops can charge 150 dollars `diagnostic fee`,,to make up for all
those 30$ smog coupons

whats the trans code decode to--google will tell you quickly
slipping, never good--have you ckd the fluid level yet?
has a special way,,not cold
