I have the same problem. I have an 98 Accord. Living in Va I also wanted to use the V1 but on the down low.

I cut a hole in the head liner near the rearview mirrior where the Accord has the two courtsey lights are. I have it hard wired so I used the conceal display that they sell.

I never got to find out how it works cause the wife caught me. She said they are illegal so I can't use it

I live and work in Chesapeake, so let me know I will show you what I did if you want.

I've thought about doing something like this, but wouldn't moving the sensors away from the unit mess it up? I always assumed the thing works by comparing signals from the front/back (like our ears do left/right). You'd change the distance between the sensors...

I also read something about the V1 and making it like the K40 with the front and rear sensors. They said that it would not work as 'desgined'

I find it hard to believe that it wouldn't work as designed. Just extending wires so the sensors can reach the front and rear. Still will be comparing the same signals. Anything is possible

Ya I agree with StreetEffectz on the signal thing. I just want a professional job on the install....

Hey Accord you coming to the DC Meet? You could follow me up?

Oops, sorry boys. If you drive in DC, NY or VA, you can't have those fancy radar detectors! That sucks, eh.

Even if it is legal in CA, it's still nice for it to be completely invisible. (Concealed display isn't really concealed when the cop is right there next to ya looking into your window.) Is there anyway you can take it apart like StreetEffectz said? Let me know how it goes.

Hey, if you're looking for good stealth, try ripping it apart and mounting the display part in the sun glasses holder in the head liner. It'd take a damn good custom job but if you want to hide it, just push the display back up and it's hidden.

I say take the sucker apart. Integrate the display into the rearview mirror or something like that. Break out the soldering iron and put the sensors in the front and rear windows. Yes, no, maybe?

I was thinking sensors in the fron license plate and rear. I also was looking at a intergration into the rear view. Like adding a led or something in there.... I like to find a shop or someone who would do it. Obviously I have to go out of state to get it done....

SLVR TL,

That factory style body kit and spoiler must weigh an awful lot to bring your TL up to 18,000 lbs GVWR. That law is for commercial vehicles not cars.

Obviously you DIDNT READ IT.

It says you cant have a detector in a vehicle weighing MORE then 18,000lbs

Or any commercial vehicle weighing more then 10,000lbs.

So... it is perfectly legal to have a detector in our cars sicne we only way about 3500lbs.

I love when I'm right... doesnt happen to often

Ooooops! you are right....

-sorry-

I totally forgot to pay attention to the weight part. How much does our TLs weigh anyways... actually I can just find out in the manual.

And no, my body kit and spoiler are not made of metal.

I've thought about doing this forever but a large part of the detector working has to do with teh shielding... there are large quantities of metal designed to focus the detectors... so i dont know how effective taking the sensors out would be

I just want to find someone who has done a stealth install beyond using their hideaway alert sensor.

Mine, when I had it work well. I just cut a whole in the headliner and slide the detector in. The rear facing atenna still worked well, even though it was slightly blocked.

It was still able to work cause I took out the courtsey lights and the sensor was able to get the signal thru the lense the light use to shine thru.

why not just buy a remote system like the passport sr-1? then you dont have to take anything apart and you can have it installed in the bumper. my friend's dad just got one installed in hid jag and the lights that tell when the radar are going off were built into his gauges. since you live in Va, might not be a bad idea to get one that is immune to VG-2 (the radar detector detector).

Why don't you call Valentine One and just ask them... I'm sure they can let you know if it would work if taken apart.

Cool

Actually i just tried calling V-1 and they told me a little story about how the insides were delicate and i souldn't mess with it...Nor would they tell me what the heck was going on inside the box...So for now, i am keeping the V-1 in one piece...The SR-1 doesn't hold a candle to the V-1...I tried it my self...It's a 7500 in pieces and way over priced...

Ya I have a passport now and from experience the V1 is nicer. I just wanted a stealth install. I'm leaning towards just taking apart there little remote module and building the LEDs into something.

That would be sweet...My buddy Paul does installs like that all the time... I'd be nice to have a fuzz buster built in, but V-1 doesn't do it, DAMN THEM...And the way the cops are out here in MN and the way i speed, i can't risk it...

Like I said....K40 is the way to go. Even the Beltronics Vector LR. Build those puppies right into the car. No one even know they are there.

I'd still rip the V1 apart. I'd make it work, no problem!

I got it. Mount it on the rear subwoofer or in that area in one of those trays and use a custom hidden enclosure to hide the side views only barely exposing the front. I know at least with my tint you will have extreme difficulty in seeing it from the rear and hiding it from the front should be easy. And run the hidden wiring.

Thoughts on that approach?

MToker, I am going to search as well. If you find out anything let me know !!

The wife hates that radar detector, but if she doesn't know it's there !!! I can get away with using it.

I thought about that approach. I was going to use a tissue box. A black one then cut holes in it so the V1 sensors stick out the front and back. The only thing is that all radar detectors say that they need to be mounted in the front with a clear view. In the back I think you might lose some range.

My current operation is the V1 unit with electrical tape over the display (I have the little conceal display). It looks like a black box attached to the windshield. I am trying to think of what else can be done to the unit to make it stealth.
