Trunk torsion bar help
I just called my local dealer trying to order heavy-duty torsion bars (the ones that come with the OEM spoiler) but they told me that I would have to order the spoiler with them. Does anyone have a hook-up that can get me the HEAVY-DUTY torsion bars, not the stock ones? Please help!!! Thanks.
Wow I never even realized there was a heavy duty set. from reading the manual I thought you kept the stock ones and just had to reposition them, and that a special tool was needed to adjust them alhough some people did teh same using crowbars and hammers.
Email Tim, he should be able to get em for you.

I just called one of the other local dealers and they told me that they could order them and that they would be $35. The part number is 08F13-SOK-201R2 for those that are interested in upgrading their torsion bars. You might want to double check on that part number because I won't be getting my bars in until monday, so I won't be able to confirm that part number is in fact the HEAVY-DUTY torsion bars...I'll let you all know.

Trunk torsion bars are springs that open up our trunk lids. If you open your trunk, and look right below the stock sub, you will notice 2 grey bars going from one end of the trunk hinge to the other. These are the stock torsion bars.

Can anybody confirm if that part number above is a good number? I called to my local Honda dealer(no Acura dealer around here) and he said it wasn't a good number. I'm trying to see if the accord uses the same spring.
Hey John,
If you're going to install them for yourself, make sure to get the torsion spring tool. It's really hard w/o the tool. It's about 8 bucks and make your job a lot easier.
TRUNK SPRING TOOL (part# 08M10-SM4-100)
(For your information, you can get the tool from either ACURA/HONDA dealer. Call them and give them a part#)

After reading the posts, my question is:
Are the black heavy duty torsion bars included with the oem spoiler? My trunk flops closed in any slight wind or if I'm parked on an incline. I complained to the dealer and they "adjusted" them but I still have the same problem. I have a 2003 tl-s with the dealer installed oem spoiler. Any help is appreciated.

Look at the bars, the heavy duty ones are black & the originals are grey. Check out my recent thread when I installed my heavy duty bars:

Since you're at it check out the bottom of your OEM spoiler under the spoiler light. The words "ACURA" should be marked if not the stealer did not give you a true OEM spoiler but rather gave you a cheaper after market one in order to charge you for the full OEM price & make extra $$.
Just pop up the trunk and see if you have gray torsion bar or black one on your car. Gray torsion bar is stock one w/o spoiler. That's what comes with the stock car. OEM spoiler comes with black heavy duty torsion bar.
If you have OEM spoiler and has gray torsion bar on your car, obviously, whoever did the install didn't put the heavy duty torsion bar.

Well I just looked at the torsion bars and they are grey. Pretty much what I expected.
My spoiler does say ACURA underneath so it is OEM. I hammered the dealer on the price of the car so they screwed me on the torsion bars and didn't give me my valet key. What else??

GO BACK TO UR DEALER!! THat is unacceptable regardless of what price you paid. He accepted to do the deal at that price he has to give u all the parts...I believe when u buy the factory spoiler the springs are included and not seperate.
Option 2 is go to another dealer and complain about the trunk not opening up all the way, and then tell them that someone told you about some springs in the trunk and maybe they are defective. Act dumb about it, and since you have a factory spoiler they will replace those springs for u under warranty. There is no way for them to tell if you bought the car with the spoiler on at time of purchase or u added it on later on. Their systems dont know. Just act dumb if you chose this option.

No way. New torsion bars are only there if the OEM spoiler was installed by the dealer & if that dealer decided to upgrade the bars. As you may know some will not.
