Transmission loophole
Transmission loophole
I have a 1999 Acura 3.2TL. I drive a lot. I replaced the transmission after 2 years at 68,000 miles with my own dollar.
I'm now at about 140,000 miles and i hear about this free transmission replacement. To my logic i should be reembursed for the one i bought outright at 68,000 miles or use that credit towards the one i need now because it is, religiously, broken again after 70k miles.
Typically the sales and service pawns agree with me, but I've been in heated screaming matches with managers and shop foremen over it.
Anyone heard about a dealership that agrees with me? I'll drive anywhere in the country to get it done for free, which i think i deserve.
Who should i talk to, write to, hire (if i need an attorney).
Thanks much

I got something for you...did you get that warranty extension in the mail? Mine is dated August 2003. Anyway it came with a form to fill out for reimbursement if you had already paid to have the transmission repaired or replaced. to be eligible for reimbursement 1) you must have had your vehicle repaired before receiving this notice and 2) you must have owned the vehicle at the time of repair. You are still eligible if you no longer own the vehicle.
So you need this form, a copy of the repair receipt, proof of payment, and mail that to
American honda Motor Co., Inc
Acura Client Services
PO Box 2964
Torrance, CA 90509-2964
or call them at 800-382-2238.
Looks like you should be good, I dont know why the service people didnt tell you this or help you out more....those stealers, you never know.

i've moved around a LOT -- hence, the mileage -- and i dont remember having recieved a letter about the transmission, although i recieved three other recall letters for various electrical issues on a '99 TL.
i have, however, forwarded that address to my attorney to have a letter written about my problems. i also had totally subpar HID ballasts that began flickering my headlights after 45k miles that i never fixed because it was so intermittent that i could not track the problem down until recently (120k miles) and now those records of me stopping in with complaints are "missing" from the dealership's computers and they want over $2000 to fix them and want over $1000 just for the parts
i have found the owner of the dealerships home address and am having a long letter drafted by my attorney with my help about my experiences with these warranty issues and have a friend that's a columnist in the newspaper that is the local paper in the city of the dealership that i purchased this car.
i was 18yrs old, and somewhat of a "trustfund baby" and bought it with cash and made a fit about them finding one with less than one mile on the odometer with the white celophane on the paint because this was to be customized heavily and i just wanted something perfect to start with (obviously this idea faded into this car being my daily driver
). apparently the management and salespeople there didn't want to even pretend to respect the money i spent with them and have had a bad feeling there.
i'm only buying BMW's from now on...never had any problems with any of their cars, and the staff at any dealership i had walked into had exceptional customer service.
PS, the electrical system has been a complete nightmare in this car since i added an aftermarket system...after thousands of hours of headache, i recommend gutting every wire in the entire car (especially the grounds and OE speaker wire) and starting over for the sake of the dash lighting, tail lights, air conditioner blower, trunk release solenoid, seat heaters, and headlights (may be correlated).

o ya...my rearview mirror melted
my car got left in the sun one day (i live in orlando florida currently, gets a lil hot) and when i got back in the car and let it cool down i noticed that it looked like the chromatic material in the mirror was melting and pooling up at the bottom of the mirror
now it's just impossible to see very well out of, and there's a dark oval in the center of it
weird huh

good luck with everything, sounds like you got sort of a lemon of a car. I have never had any problems of any kind with mine. Also BMW's arent 100% reliable either and are expensive to fix.
