Tranny Dead. Are new ones Better?

Tranny Dead. Are new ones Better?
I bought my TLS in July 01 and have 24,000 miles on it. A few weeks ago I noticed a rough shift between 2-3 gear. I thought I was imagining it and then when I was in NYC, it hesitated and searched for a gear at 30mph. I carefully drove it back to Maryland with it in 5th gear using the sportshift. I thought that leaving it in the sportshift would prevent it from coming out of gear. Any thoughts?
Well I dropped it off at the dealership and they called me today. They said that they reproduced the shifting problems and ordered a new tranny. Overall the same M.O. that everyone else has had.
My question is: Are the new transmissions better? I hear some are on their 3rd.
Thanks

still a Masshole
Supposedly honda/acura have figured out the tranny defect and fixed it. There's plenty of info you can read up on so try doing a search. Also try the sticky at the top of the thread list that talks about the extended warranty.

I just got my TL-S back with my new tranny. Spoke at length with the service manager at Acura of Avon in CT. He seemed very knowledgeable about the status of the trannies and said to date Acura has not advised them of the problem with the trannies. He said the one going back in my car, albeit rebuilt, is exactly the same as the one that came out of it. He says Acura is pretty good about telling them what the problem is when they find the source of a component failure, but they have yet to do that with the tranny issue.

Another one!! Ughh! I just got my car back early this week. The tranny package said updated, so this is supposed to be the new tranny is what the service manager said. They have talked to phoenix, which seemed to go through more trannys last year, and the word is back then, the same trannys were going in, and now they are modified and different from the one it replaces some how, but who knows.

All the replaced trannies (Including mine at 22,000 miles) are REBUILT TRANNIES.....NOT NEW ONES. So I don't know if any issues have infact been resolved.

crap. Well, I'm going to wait for the 6spd G35 4 door or something else then, ugh! Dealer has been really nice, and said, well your covered for 100K now on the tranny, so I wouldn't worry about it, but I'm not sure anymore. It would be had enough if we all just needed a replacement once, but several times!? This is one of the few cars that didn't grow old with me real quick, and I had planned on at least 4 years. Its fun to drive when the wife isn't, and I got the Comptech power adders on.

Well, I guess what I and everyone else wants to know....
Will there ever be a really fixed tranny?
Or will they always replace them with fixed ones that will still have the original problem/flaw?
Mine is doing a nasty little slip thing from time to time

Yah, it's pretty pathetic isn't it? It started acting up exactly like the first tranny the night before I almost died on the highway because of its failure. That's why it is sitting at the dealership now for who knows how many days. I don't feel safe driving my car. I refuse to drive a time bomb

The most I could get out of Acura was that they have updated the third gear clutch pack and torque converter to prevent them from failing. Doesn't seem to be working :flamer:

I got the car back after 4 days. I dropped it off Tuesday morning and got it back Friday after work. It seems to be okay. But if I am not mistaken it seems less smooth on the shifts then before. But it is a very minor difference and worth it if the tranny last.
I am sorry to hear the is someone on their fourth. Have mercy!

Yup, I couldn't justify taking a hit on getting a new car just yet. I want to see what manufacturers do in '04 models. I plan on keeping miles low on this one.
It'll be a 2003TLs. I think I want to get anthracite.
