Tranny Cooling Fan

I've searched the issue and most say its normal but... i just cant see it being that way.

--- my transmission cooling fan comes on 3 out of 5 times i drive my car. After i park about 20 seconds later the fan kicks on for anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. it has never done this before but the last 2 months it happens on a regular basis. would a transmission fluid change solve this problem?? does it mean my tranny is about to pass? any insight would help.

We dont have a trans cooling fan. We have a radiator fan and a fan for the AC. If your fan is running with the car off (though not abnormal) make sure your coolant is topped off and the overflow tank is up to the normal limit. When was the last time the coolant was changed?

coolant is fresh. there are two fans on the front of the car one directly in front of the engine block and one directly in front of the transmission. so i believe thats used to cool the transmission.

driver side fan is run by the temp sensor on lower rad corner, Its the main engine temp cooling fan.
that part is a well known failure and when the fan starts running a long time--thats often the culprit

If you just changed coolant there is a chance of air trapped in the system is messing with the sensor
reburp per owner book and make sure heater is set on Hot so its mini radiator is open too

the passenger side fan is tied to the ac- ac compressor on- that fan goes on so it sucks air thru the radiator(s) to help cool fluid/gas moving thru the different rads

its normal for the driver side fan to run 15 seconds to 2 minutes at shutdown as temp rises and fan tries to cool it back down

it should also run when sitting for more than a few minutes- come on a little then back off--as needed
part of the burping requires waiting for the fan to cycle a few times

so you think the temp sensor or thermostat is bad? or that i need to "burp" the coolant? how would you go about that?

ck res bottle cap has hose attached inside it that sits in coolant--that likes to fall off

first burp--if that doesnt cure it--fan sensor

need owner manual for your years exact procedure,,pretty sure its been copied and pasted here before
try search feature or may be on acura.com too

I think my first step is going to be to change that coolant temp sensor then possibly thermostat then......?

thermostat would make it redline the temp when stopped, then go down when moving

fan sensor usually makes fan run for 15 minutes when its dieing-you have 15 seconds to 2 minutes correct? normal operation

You are operating close to normal-

do the burping procedure so system is operating free of air then see if other problems.
Simple things can cause weird problems

At least try a simple burp:
turn heat to full HOt- Key ON for cars with navi panel- set temp then key off.
manual ac control move temp to hot
Make sure res bottle is halfway between min and max
Open rad- fill to top
Start engine and run at 1500 rpm adding coolant as needed
wait for fan to operate
let idle- ck fluid level
wait for fan to operate
ck levels
done

get the cap pressure tested at parts store for free,,that is the first place of making pressure the system needs

Those fans DONT blow on the engine or trans to cool them, they PULL air thru the radiator and condenser to cool the fluid in them.
