took off bumper to replace ballast and headlight

I have got to say this is the easiest bumper I have ever had to take off. So after I figured out how to get the headlight out ( replacing due to condensation), I removed the ballast from under it and as I did I noticed water dripping down into it. Guess that was the culprit. Anway, I ordered a new headlight and ballast as well as new seals. Sucks it happened so soon after getting the car, but what can ya do.

I had to remove my bumper for my icebox a few days ago. It was pretty damn easy. Just broke a couple of those plastic holders.

Were you able to stop the water from dripping on the ballast?

Glad to hear that the bumper is easy to come off. I need to remove it soon to replace a D2R bulb and install a CAI (hopefully) at the same time.

Just waiting for it to warm up here. That damn groundhog was full of lies!

Just FYI, you don't need to remove the bumper to install a new D2R, but if you are installing your CAI I guess it would make installing the bulb easier.

Really? I need to replace the driver's side bulb, and I can't get access to the rear of the headlight housing. There's a brace in the way from the top, and I can't unscrew the plastic cover for the D2R bulb. Plus there's the stock airbox in the way, blocking the rear of the housing. I figured I'd have to remove the bumper, take the headlight housing out, and change it that way.

Is there an easier way to do it? I'd love to not have to remove the bumper just to change the bulb.

Thanks and appreciate any help.

bump...to see if anyone can advise how I can change my driver's side D2R without removing the bumper and headlight assembly.

Thanks!

You have to remove the thin piece of plastic that runs above the grill across the front of the engine bay. It'd held down by a few plastic clips. You may also need to remove the cover of the airbox to get a little more room. You need a t-20 torx security bit to remove the screw that is securing the plastic cover for the D2R bulb.

Hmm...never looked at what I would be able to see, if I removed that plastic strip. I'll check it out tonight. Thanks for the tip!

Just to update, I attempted to replace my driver's side D2R bulb tonight. Got the plastic cover off, removed a couple of the plastic airbox pieces behind the headlight housing...and was ready to pop the D2R cover off using the Torx-20 bit I had bought just for this occasion. BUT...I couldn't get the damn Torx screw off. It was pretty rusted, and the centre "stud" in the screw head ended up sitting too high, thus blocking the Torx bit from engaging with the screw head properly and allowing me to turn it.

Why the hell do they put that centre post or stud in the screw head anyways? Anyways, I really can't figure out how I'm going to be able to get that cover off. Anyone have any ideas? Otherwise, I'll have to drop by my mechanic's to see if he can work some magic.

Damn rusted screw! :silvermad :silvermad
