Post TL vs A4 1.8T

Just curious, if my 2000 3.2TL races with a 2000 A4 1.8T stick, who will come out on top?

Why would it? 170HP vs 225HP. The A4 only wieghs around 350lb less.

Hey AC, any suggestions? I must beat this guy 'cause he's bragging so much ever since he got his car 8 months ago and insisting that the TL wouldn't stand a chance against it.

I see you're one of those that think HP is everything. It doesn't always work out that way. Look at the Boxster, it's less than 210HP and it will smoke our TL in every aspect. FYI.

Ya, but the boxter is 40HP more than A4 and its 700LB lighter than TL.

I don't know much about cars, but it makes sense that a car with a weaker engine, but one that weighs alot less can win, but the A4's engine is alot weaker and only weighs alittle less. I know gear ratios make a difference, but that means you win either low speed or high speed, but overall 1 will win in the longrun.

What else influences speed that i'm missing?

BTW, small Boxter engine is 217 so its only 12HP weaker but 700LB lighter. That makes sence that it should win.

Too many typos tonight.

Where are getting yours at (Brunswick, Springfield, Somerville)? You sell computers?

Probably Springfield. Ocean (Monmouth) Acura seem to match any offer Springfield makes. I'd stay away from Somerset (Bridgewater). The sales guy was rude, sales manager a wise ass, and their best price was $900 more than Springfield with less options.

Sell PC's? No, why do you ask?

From autosite:

Audi A4 1.8T:
0-60 8.1 secs
1/4 mile: 16.20 secs

If it's stock you will smoke it. Go for it.

Avatar,

I would never go to Somerville either...had extremely bad experience with them and their prices is way too high.

I seen your profile and listed computer as your occupation and also I'm in the computer business too.

Oh, I do various things. Testing, support, infrastructure development, etc. What do you do?

I just read on the other board there is a bulletin for squeaky sunroofs and a fix with anti squeek tape. Think I could get them to apply that stuff when I pick up the car? I have a feeling they will say there is nothing wrong, come back if there is, but thats such a hassel. Suggestions?

Thank God I don't have that problem or at least not yet. Best thing to do is mention this matter to your sales rep prior picking up your car and have he or she talk to the service mgr to see what they can do for it. By the way are you picking up a 2001 or 2000 TL?

Well, I just drove the 1.8T stick last week. All I can say is that the thing FEELS damn fast. The low-end torque is just AMAZING... I was there for the S4, but they didn't have one at the lot. They had one for me last weekend, but wasn't there. I guess I will go later on today in da morning...

I have a lot more respect to the 1.8T after I drove it. The gearbox is not as tight as the one on BMW. But the feels alrite. I will let you all know about the S4...

Oh btw, if the A4 is stock, you should be okay. But if it's chipped. Then just think about the horsepower output on the 1.8T high pressure turbo. 225hp... So if the A4 is chipped, I will put the money on the Audi is the driver is good. Plus the Audi got 4WD as well. Damn, that makes a HUGE difference in bad weather. Even thought they have bad weight distribution, too. I think it's like f/r 60/40. They do handle better for sure...

Just my $0.02

Ocean is the best out of the bunch, i dunno about there sales people but their Customer Service there is impecible. I had a problem rattle in my TL and brought it to brunswick where i got my car and they tried to blame it on me, next day brought it to Ocean and went out of their way to find out it was a lose side skirt, fixed it, and gave me a free oil change for the inconvience. As per sales my sales guy at Brunswick was cool as hell and I would buy from him again.

i havent gone through the thread completely. but stock vs stock, TL will smoke an A4 1.8T. although with few upgrades, such as chip, exhaust, filter and downpipe...1.8T will extract some big numbers. they also have to k04 turbo upgrade for them...hope i answered your question.

first time poster, i just bought a tl about a month a go...
i had 99 audi a4 1.8tqm...
it had wett chip and turbo up grade.
full exhaust, neuspeed race springs and sways
also blitz blow off valve. blits dual turbo timer, greddy boost meter, autometer air/fuel meter on a-piller. my a4 was very fast.. i live in colorado and many people know my car since i am involved in a speed shop. Any way one of our customer has cl type s.. and i raced him and i beat him really bad.. since colorado has less air, turbo has big advantage here, but it was no contest....
be very careful if you are runing against a4 manual with chip...

A 3.2TL would easily beat an Audi A4 1.8T Quattro with a 5-speed manual if the lowest 0-60 time for the 3.2TL I have seen posted stock (6.7 seconds) is true. The Audi A4 1.8T does 0-60 in around 7.5 seconds, the 2.8 does so in around seven seconds flat, and the Audi S4 does 0-60 in the mid-fives I believe.
