TL stereo voted 10 best on Edmunds

What? With that weak bass? It's OK, but not great to me. That's right, the editors at Edmunds voted the TL's stereo system on of the ten best in the "over $30,000" set.

Anyway, here's the link, for your perusal.

I dunno. I think the stereo sucks butt. I should have a new system installed in a couple of weeks. I can't wait till everything comes together.

Well of course our stereo can't compare to an aftermarket one, but I think its pretty damn good for an oem stereo. Its much better then Acura's attempt in the Vigor I use to have, and they had tweeters in that car even.

Well the radio reception kinda sucks (glass antenna weak?) and the bass boost is not enough (they shoud have had a bass boost button or three channel graphic eq at least).

If TL's stereo makes the top 10, I pity the owners of the other cars.

I personally don't think bimmer's audio system is any good for jumpy musics but classical. For stocks, I think ours is good enough~ If to choose, I'd pick audi's audio sys over bimmer's any day (for "modern" musics that is...)

in fact TL has a very gd stereo system...the sound is crisp and clear for a car at that price...but 5 speakers are not enough thou...maybe 9 is the ideal number...and more bass!!

BMW's base one sux like crap...everyone will upgrade to the better one if they buy the BMW

I think the TL's stereo has nice balance for a stock system (suits me just fine). Sure it has its shortcoming, but not bad for stock.

If you guys removed your door panels and looked at the stock speakers, you would sh!t!

My old Maxima's stereos blew away my TL-S stereo, that is until StreetEffectz "upgraded" it. They can poll all they want, but in my opinion, the stock stereo is the pits! I even hate the fact that it does not display the eleapsed time of the track you are listening to.

I think it's a pretty good system for coming stock with the car. If you're coming from a car that has aftermarket equipment, then yah, it sucks A$$. But compared mono a mono to other stock systems, it is really good. The subwoofer adds alot.

If TL's stereo makes the top 10, I pity the owners of the other cars.
You've never ridden in a Kia have you?

I think the TL deserves the Top 10 ranking.

oblio98,

I just removed my door panel to do the LEDs project and I didn't paid too much attention to the speakers. What do yo mean "sh!t"? Are really cheap speaker?

I think the stereo's pretty good. I am not one of those people that love sharing my music with people who aren't in the car . By the way, all the cars in the top Edmunds Top 10 list are much more expensive than ours.

I don't see how people complain about the stock Bose system. The factory system sounds better than most of my friends aftermarket stuff. I have no complaints.

Dang, I gotta get me a Hummer, ahem, H1 Hummer.

In the meantime I'll stick with my TL. The stereo is fine with me. I've been in much worse cars. Pretty exclusive compnay, I'd say.

Methinks I struck a nerve...

As for coming from aftermarket, my last car stereo was the stock DaimlerChrysler 8-speaker CD/cassette system I had in my Intrepid. It absolutely rocked. It sounded so good that when offered the upgrade to the DC Infinity Gold system, I said "no" and wasn't sorry. Once I get my suspension done, I plan on having another EQ installed so I can have slightly more bass instead of the muddiness I hear now. That's really my only problem with the TL stereo.

For stock the system sounds OK.

BUT, my changer went out last week. Oh yeah, and I've only had my TLS for 1500 miles.

Took it to the dealer, the are replacing, but the HUs are on restricted order. So....who knows when it will arrive. AND THEN, I have to wait 3 weeks for Acura to get my CDs out of the broken Changer. ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

IMO, I'll change out the system soon.

I think the TL stereo is MUCH better than the one in my S4. I think I get more highs and MAYBE a little more clarity, but there is NO bass at all. I know that the TL will lose bass while the car is moving, but that is the case in most cars. Mine does that. The only time there is any bass is when the car is at a stand still and the windows rolled down. Otherwise, there is a complete lack of bass. I would agree with the TL being in the top 10 and I don't own one. For a stock system, you guys have definitely got one of the best. And remember, it is standard with your car. To even get the Bose system in my car which is not as good as yours, I had to pay an extra $600 or something like that.

Same here. Our system beats a lot of stock system out there, even some aftermarket system. I don't see a reason to upgrade my stock setup.

I think our radio is better than most other cars out there. I mean, some days, the bass hits hard and some days it doesnt but hey at least we have a sub. For a 30k car, the stock system is not to shabby.

I've found the factory "Bose" sound system very disappointing. The no-name 4-speaker system in my 89 Prelude was superior, although I have to say I think they did an amazing job with that car's acoustics, I preferred listening in my car to listening in my living room!

I also don't think much of the "Bose" designation in the first place, what does that mean? Bose throws some of their speakers in the car and it's a "Bose" system. There's more to making an audio system sound good than a particular brand of equipment. I suspect that the speaker placements are not optimal for the car's acoustics.

Does anyone know if replacing the stereo requires replacing the stock in dash 6-cd changer.

That's the best thing about TL's stereo system.

I am personally very happy with the stock tunes... While it doesn't have much bass it is very excellent for a stock stereo. I have a Kenwood MP3 deck and I want to put it in but..... I really like how I can change the volume/stations on the stering wheel!! If I knew a way to hook up my kenwood deck and still change the volume(dont care too much about stations) on the steering wheel I would change it out pronto...

depends on what you wanna do rite...

upgrades the speakers, sure... you can leave it alone, but if want to get the most out of your ultra high-end amp/speakers, then I don't think the stock head unit should stay

I kept my stock head unit and had StreetEffectz add two amps, crossovers, new door speakers, and a boxed sub, and the thing sounds LIGHT YEARS better.

I think the head unit is great, but the rest of the system is sub-par, IMHO.

Thats cool the system as it being a stock system is ok. I agree the Bose in the 95-99 Maxima's has to be one of the best stock Bose Sytems out their it rocks!

Sorry, but some of you are acting purely moronic. what are you guys who are saying that the stereo sucks basing your opinion on? edmunds was checking for clarity and quality. not the ability to "bump" crap. please explain what makes you guys think a system is good?

The biggest problem here as I have found out, is many board members are young, (ages 17 to 25), and the younger people like the huge bass to listen to the real bassy music. For most owners of the TL, (ages 35 +), I am older than this, this stereo system for a stock stereo is great, IMHO. If this system is not sufficient, get an aftermarket, or add on if you can, or get a different car. The last time I said this in this thread, it was removed. I am just tired of hearing "the stereo system sucks".

are you kidding me?
the Maxima 6 speaker boses (4th gen, 99 and prior) are better than ours

We need tweeters.... and i am sooooo sick of the rattle in my roof when any bass is on -- i hope the dealer will fix it next appt. even tho im outta warranty - cuz i complained last time butr thye said they couldnt find it and its gotten worse
