Thumbs down The TCS sucks on the TL

I know people have b*tched about this but now that I have a TL I feel I can personally b*tch.

The other day when it was raining I figured here's a good time to test it. I was at a light and I jumped on the gas. Well the tires screamed to bloody hell. What the hell does the TCS do?

The lame ass Saturn this car replaced had much better TCS. The Saturn would use fuel cutoff to stop me from spinning the wheels.

All I can say is, "lame"

You must have turned the TCS off... it's on by default. The car WILL NOT peel out and "scream to bloody hell" with TCS on.

I agree, I've never had problems with my TCS. Doopster, if the TCS light is on your TCS is turned off.

It was on a wet blacktop. The TCS light was off. I have only seen the TCS try to do something once. I was coming to a stop on loose gravel and I felt the car jerk and the TCS light blink.

Well, our TCS is just garbage IMHO...

We don't have the yaw control, and I don't think the TCS will cut the fuel either. The only thing it does to apply front brake...

Ugh... that's not TCS, that's ABS if you were coming to a stop...

Take your car to the dealer when it's wet and show him that. If the car is ok, it will NOT peel out. It will just sit there and groan while the TCS is kicking in. Trust us.

TCS uses the front brakes to control wheelspin, and it only works under 18MPH.

If you floor it in the rain, the TCS is going to react, but giving it wide-open-throttle with no traction is going to have the wheels overcoming that 18MPH threshold pretty quickly. The TCS isn't going to clamp down with the front brakes and roast your pads and/or fight with your torque converter while you keep you right foot planted. Nothing is going to totally prevent you from peeling out if you floor it in the rain.

My TCS works as advertised.

TCS works by applying brakes on the spinning wheels in order to maintain traction. In a way, it's somewhat the exact opposite of ABS. This system is not the same as VSA and is designed to get you off the line without spinning your wheels. Sounds like there might be something wrong with your system.

Personally, I think the system is great. Works real well in snow. VSA would be even better but oh well.

That's probably what happened to me. They really should have fuel cutoff.

When driving my TL on the snow, the TCS came on quite frequently when starting out. Works great in my opinion!

I also see it coming on frequently when driving in the rain. I love it.

TCS - Total Crap System

TCS sucks! I totally agree with Ed and many ohters in this forum. What's the point of having a light blinking on and off when it ain't doin shit for you. Now, VSA on the other hand would have been worthwile to have on our beloved.

I forgot to mention that TCS lowered my 60' time at the track by .4 seconds. More proof that it works.

That's just proof TCS can outdrive you, not that it works as advertised =P

That was on the main circuit at Summit Point Raceway. I have done quite a few autocrosses but haven't done one in the TL yet. Driving school is a lot more fun though. Do you auto-x competitively? That C5 should be awesome.

You have no business jumping on the gas on a rain slick surface, TCS or not. If you accelerate in a normal fashion you will move easily. If there is any slippage the TCS will kick in and help you. It was not however designed to oversome foolishness.

Its on by default when you start the car. When you push the button and the light comes on on the dash, the TCS system is dissabled.

The TCS on the TL is the biggest joke of a system ive ever seen.

I don't think they should....I want to drive the car. I don't want the car driving for me or trying to 'help' me out.

The TCS is good if your stuck in the snow and trying to get out at low speeds (<18MPH) it wasn't designed for what you were doing.

Read my lips.

1. If you turn TCS OFF, the light comes on to remind you that it's turned off.
2. If TCS is ON, then when it gets activated (wheel spin), the light comes ON to let you know that it's being engaged.

Holy old post, Batman - welcome to four and a half years ago.

The TCS was not designed to overcome stupidity. If you slam the accelerator pedal down from a stop on a slick surface, it will attempt to do something but this is really beyond its control.

If you start off normally the TCS light will flash and it will regulate wheel spin. It's helped me out a lot lately in the rain because my tires are worn.

Yeah, I stomped the gas and got a little wheelspin trying to cross an intersection and the stupid TCS cut fuel and bogged the engine.
