Question synthetic tranny fluid?

would changing out tranny fluid to synthetic help preserve its life? my friend just recently "changed" his wrx's tranny fluid to synthetic and claims that the shifts are so much better. could this help us?

peter.
ps. by "changed" i mean that he removed his pan and all the tranny oil that was in there. he then replaced gasket and pan and poured in oil to the level. he didn't flush all of the oil out.

I did it on my 99 TL. I did a complete flush 100% out 100% Redline synthetic. Yes the shifting was very smooth for the first few days, but it didin't lasted long, thus it was still better than regular ATF.

About preserving life, well the transmission when bad after a few thousand miles, so I'm guessing the fluid does not make a difference in that matter.

the warranty on your tranny has been extended to 100k, just use what honda uses. Or, face the deaeler blaming failure on the fluid you use.

Not on 99's. The extension is only for 2000 and up. The dealer didn't blame me for using redline. Mine was replaced at 85k, because I complaint to acura. I have a 99 by the way.

I used the honda fluid, and drained it twice since it wasn't that dirty looking..

The car shifted smooth for about a week, and now shifts the same, just as before (not ruff but u can feel every gear change).. what gives... 2000TL
