Another "Syn" question. Have a V-6 Toyota with almost 80,000 miles on it. Been running Valvoline 5W-30 since it was brand new, but would like to keep this vehicle well beyond 100,000........any problems switching to Mobil 1 this late in the game?

Had a friend go to M1 10w-30 on his Volvo that had 130k on it. No problems there. I would say if your engine is in good shape with no mechanical problems switching to synthetics is fine.

I bought the new Fram "Xgard" or something like that high capacity filter made fir synthetic oil. Filter XG3593A

I must say, the car does seem to run smoother and more quiet now. It seems like my acceleration is smoother and slightly quicker too. Now, instead of every 3K miles, I am going to a 7K mile interval between changes.
Acura said it was cool and told me that I could go 7500mi with that set up if I wanted to. But, I feel more comfortable with 7K intervals.

Stats:

6 pack of Mobil 1 synthetic at Wal-mart was appx $22
Fram 7500 Mile Synthetic Oil filter $9
4.5 qts used in change.
15 minutes to do the job in my garage.
Not bad, the cost evens out if I stayed on a 3K mile interval with regular oil. Plus I like working on my car. I don't trust the oil change shops after they almost destoyed my old Accord by not checking for double gasket on the oil filter and it flushed oil out the bottom of the car.

Overall, I'm pleased with synthetic so far, just thought I'd share for anyone interested.

I came to the same conclusions also when I used 0w20 Mobil synthetic motor oil. How long do you plan on keeping your car? Nice Diamond Pearl White TL. This was my first choice color but I ended up getting the Satin Silver Metallic color. What's your reasoning behind using synthetic oil?

Hey bro, this thread is from wayy back in 2003, most of these guys don't even surf the forums anymore.

The reasoning in switching to synthetic oil is (in short) from numerous tests/user reviews that the oil lasts longer and is better for the engine in the long run.
