My wife was driving our 2000 TL when it suddenly accelerated on its own a couple of times. She advised that there was no floor mat interfering with the pedal. I’ve searched online for possible causes, dirty throttle body, or possible transmission problem. Anyone have experience with this?

I have personally had the engine race while idling, which I would consider to be in the same realm as unintended acceleration. In my case it was a faulty EGR valve. Replaced it and no more issues.

 

There are several reason for rpm increases. Was she moving when it happened? Does the idle change at a stop light? Any hissing noises?
