sticking, binding gas pedal

My 2000 TL with 156000 miles has developed a problem with the gas pedal. It requires much more pedal pressure than it used to to get the car rolling. This results in the car lurching from a dead stop rather than accellerating smoothly. Has anyone else had this problem. I have had the cable and throttle mechanism lubricated. I know that the '04 TL has throttle by wire which was probably developed to alleviate this problem.

Any suggestions? has anyone replaced their throttle cable?

Wow 156K on your car, anyway, Did you check the pedal itself? It could be that the pedal is physically binding and not the cable or throttle body. How much travel you get on the pedal before the car respond to the input?

Have you had a throttle body clean? That could help- Also, with that many miles on your TL, have you had to have your transmission replaced?

I would spray the linkage on the throttle body really well with Gumout first, If that doesn't do it then check the gas pedal itself and make sure there's no carpet or anything else that's keeping it from moving. After that I would say it the throttle cable(s).

My girlfriend had that problem on her accord v6 just a couple months ago. Just get your throttle body cleaned out. They have throttle body cleaner at most auto stores and its pretty straight foward. If you go to v6performance.net and look up in the useful topics forum and look for the one about cleaning your engine with seafoam. Thats pretty much the same thing. It definitely cleared up the problem

Thanks for all your useful suggestions. Am I the highest mileage 2000 TL out here? I don't want to jinx myself, but no tranny problems yet. I do drive pretty hard around town, but the mileage mostly comes from long highway trips here in New England. (go Pats). I have had two sets of rotors comped by my local Acura Dealer after brake jobs, and am on my third set of Michelins. Replacement of struts last week (KYB) from my local mechanic (see my last post) made my beauty run like new. For all the little annoyances, lets not forget the the TL is one of the best mid price screamers on the road. Fun to drive, fast, comfortable and great looking.!!

Anyone with more than 156K out there?

WOW!!

Proof that the tranny problem is NOT universal or eminent contrary to what you might think from reading this forum sometimes
