strut bar

Just wondering if anyone has the comptech front strut bar or any other brand? Did you notice any difference in the way the car handles or are they pretty much just for show?

I have the Neuspeed strut bar. It does reduce body roll during aggressive turns but most of the time I don't notice it much. From what others have said you feel it more if your car has been lowered as well.

Thanks,

Joe

I have the stock strut bar, but added the neuspeed upper tie bar and I was able to tell a big difference right away. I can take curves much faster than before it was added. I was also told I'd get more of the benefit once I lower my car...

You should consider getting the lower tie bar, as this really tightens up the suspension to prevent chassis flex. IMHO, this is a better mod to do than the upper strut bar.

I got my upper tie bar directly from neuspeed for $89.95 plus $20 shipping...call up and talk to Danny for the deal. I agree, it does look pretty cool when you pop the hood...

I can say it really didn't handle any differently to me with my Neuspeed install. I will say the turn in was a bit more crisp and direct, but overall cornering was still about the same.

The sway bars made all the difference in the world--beyond even the springs...

ps: Make sure you jack up the front end in the middle when installing it. It a helluva lot easier...

You are correct on both counts...which is why I haven't gotten the upper strut bar (it's on my low priority mod-to-do list), and sways are on my next to do when I get enough money saved up.

They do a little tiny bit for your car, a tiny bit more if you are lowered. If you are looking to tweek your suspension, and have yet to do sways, etc. Id put these last on the list, and definitely get the sways first. Strut Bars are definitely more show than go

I agree with most of the senior members here...

Strut bars should be LAST on the suspension upgrade list. (at least for this car)

So you guys think changing the stock sway bars will make more of a difference than the difference of no strut bar to a strut bar for a Type S?

Don't all TLs have OEM strut bars? The last I checked, my TL-P has them.

Interesting stuff...I could have sworn that I read something saying otherwise back when I bought the freaking neuspeed replacement sway bars (which I'm stuck with for not returning quick enough), which I read somewhere on this site were no good for a Type S, but great for a TL-P (read and told after I purchased them). I need to research more...

Thanks for all the info.

Eibach sways were supposed to be pretty good as well...

As far as Neuspeed sways (not the strut bar), they won't work if you have a/m headers...

I had the springs done before the sways, then later added sways and removed them as someone offered me $500 for them and paid for labor, and then added them again. As I said, sways affect the handling more than upgrading to 18's and better tires, more than the silly strut bar and far more than even adding the springs. Night and day differnce...

Good luck and enjoy!

Absolutely. The sways make a difference you can feel the 1st time you take a corner. The strut bar does little if nothing. Its one of those mods you really have to strain yourself to see if you can feel a difference. They look pretty though.

I may have been the one that told you that bit of info. Reason being is that unless the rear Neuspeed sway bar is larger than 19mm, then it isn't going to help the type-S at all, being that the stock size is already 19mm. The TL-P however is 18mm, but even then, why get a 19mm Neuspeed bar when the Comptech rear bar is 22mm.

The front Neuspeed bar WILL reduce the body roll TREMEDOUSLY...however you may have just shot yourself in the foot since you wanted to reduce roll in the REAR more than FRONT. So...if you install your sways as is, you'll literally get more understeer compared to if you had left it stock.

BUT all is not lost...you are 1/2 way there from getting the most dramatic sway bar setup. The reason for the SOLID 27mm front sway bar is to offset the massive SOLID 25mm Neuspeed rear RACE bar. These bars are sold seperately and if you had just installed the rear race bar by itself, you would of had TOO much oversteer (this is why you'd want to have the SOLID Neuspeed front bar). So all you need now is to find the 2nd half of your set and you'll have the best sways on the market.

What you CAN do in the mean time is find an 6th gen Accord driver and sell him your 19mm rear bar since the v6 comes with 17mm and 15mm for the 4-cylinder versions (dont quote me on those #'s). If they wanted more understeer they can buy your fronts too, but I doubt they'd want to do that.

The other option (if you cant find the Neuspeed rear race bar) is to cash out and buy the Eibach sways (which is what I'd do, if I was starting from scratch).

What is "a/m" headers? I have Neuspeed Race sways & headers without problems. Did you mean the Neuspeed lower tie-bar?

edgalang, thanks for all the info and insight. I haven't installed the front or rear neuspeed sway bars and I decided that once I can dump them, I'm going for the Eibach sways...I think you're right, you may be the one who gave me the advice in the past. Should I remove the upper tie bar if I get the Eibach sway bars?

Thanks again for the info.

Why? They'd only help each other.

FYI...Neuspeed strut bar is much better than the Eibach strut bar.
