Stock Speaker 'Stain'?
Stock Speaker 'Stain'?
I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about. My car is very clean, but for some reason it looks like the mesh material to cover the speakers has some dark stain on it. Here's an example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-...=p4506.c0.m245
I've been searching for almost 30 minutes (stain, speakers, bose, door stain, etc) and found nothing. I'm sure there's an explanation somewhere, but I am looking for some help.
On e-bay I notice that almost all cars with tan interior have this 'stain'. Is it just a different material used for the speakers or something? Maybe it has some function, but it really looks like a stain. It appears to be on all 4 doors (and the back window) as well.
Like I said, this has probably been asked before, but I've been searching to no avail. Enlighten me.

i had it on my old door panels... i hink its from the dirty air and dust that gets into the paneling and is pushed through where the speaker lies...
you can try cleaning it.. or just recovering it with a better color "black"
im glad i dont have that issue anymore with my new black panels...

hard to say..... im not sure if there really is a good way to do so... i cut mine off of my old panels and just left the black speaker shield as the only thing there...
but its good to have some type of material there to block out tons of crud from goin in the door panel from the cab...

Are you talking about those? The dark part?
I think those are the holes in the plastic underneath the fabric. I have those too. If you run your hands over them, you can feel the holes. It's dark because of the speaker underneath. There's no way a stain can form in a perfect circle like that...lol
I could be wrong, but I'm preeeety sure.

Those different colored spots on the speaker cover material is the plastic mesh behind the material that prevents damage to the speaker. Its simply quite noticeable on the lighter colored breathable material.

you could always try painting the speaker to match the interior so it is not so dark behing the holes, don't ask me if it works cause cause i have no idea
btw i don't really notice that on my car cause i drive with my doors shut
and there down at my feet
The funny thing is, I asked the previous owner of my car if they were stains as well. Then I realized that it was impossible that all four doors were stained and that I was being ridiculous. A quick closer look revealed my previously mentioned conclusion.

that whole area behind the fabric is black in color... i've removed it.. it is something that happens over time..
its years of dust floating around the car caking on the only free flowing part of the door panels.. which is where the speaker lies behind...

why would black mesh show through the material and solid black plastic on the other half not show though?

i removed the fabric off of the plastic backing... (because of the darker "stain") area.
i found the pics and i'll post them up to show you what i mean..
the fabric is the same thickness all the way through.. and even the area that doesnt have holes in it for the speakers is still black plastic....
saying that if you push the material around with your thumb... the stain moves with it...
like i was mentioning earlier i think it has alot to do with it being the area of fabric that has air flow and dust moving through from the cabin and outdoor...
pics soon...

here ya go peeps
you CAN clean the "Stain" from the speaker fabric...
i think theres so very few people that bought the car new and remember that it was once a solid color... but simple soap and water will suffice if you are willing to take off the panel and spray water through the backside.
enjoy...
ps. this is not my current door panels.. this is an extra one i had to expirement on in the name of Azine.
hope i helped a few people...

heres the difference in a door panel that was lightly used and one that has withstood the test of time lol..
you can see at one point is was in fact clean and solid...
bad design flaw on acura/honda's part..

heres the pics i messed up from post #17
what everyones door looks like...

what it looks like behind the fabric.

what the fabric looks like from behind (obviously full of dirt and crud from dirty air passing through this area)

with a little soapy water applied... (cleaned to original color)

front shot after cleaning thoroughly.. (what it should look like on your door)

i would suggest anyone who wants to clean theirs should do so with the door panel off to avoid wetting things inside the door panel that dont need to get wet.. (speaker, wires etc: )
in my opinion it doesnt look bad without the fabric alltogether, but then your exposing your speaker to all that crud that the fabric was once filtering out.

i think the triangle thing is impractical b/c i have to remove it so much and its not very sturdy when attatched...
but if you work something out.. show pics
I see these speaker stains on a lot of non-black interiored cars that are old and use these type of fabric covers. It's inevitable. Speakers push air to generate sound - the fabric is acting kind of like an air filter if you will - it's bound to get dirty over time.
i put my tweeters in the triangles which looks clean, BUT when fixing the wiring on my driver door speaker, i had to pull the triangle out so i could get to the back of the tweeter, and i broke the one and only clip holding it in... so my triangles jus chillin in my door with my tweeter attached. i put the tweeters for my back doors on the door itself above the speaker an it looks clean. wish i did that for the front...
