Ok, I keep reading all of these negative posts about how people are wishing they wouldn't have bought their TL.
I just bought mine in June 02 (03 Type-S) and already have 8000 miles on it. I have only had some minor issues, but that is normal with any car.
Rear view mirror had defect on glass - yet to be replaced due to lack of time on my part
Wheels out of balance since new
Sunroof squeaks
OEM tires suck
Lockup torque converter is annoying at times
Hard start in cold weather
What should I watch out for? I don't know the build date of my car, I will look later, but it was fresh off the truck on 6/17/02.
I love my car so far. Are there any positive comments from you guys out there?
Just curious. I had a 1999 Accord that never gave me one problem. Then I went to a 2000 F150 4x4 that had a few little things here and there. Now this car.

They can fix the sunroof squeak.
What do you expect from stock tires, they aren't high performance but they aren't that bad.
Haven't had the cold weather starting hard problem, starts fine.
The Torque Converter lock up is pretty strange, after all the paranoia (and true failures), I intially thought my tranny was going, till I realized this is probably what it was.
I try not to think about it too much, the tranny is covered by the extended warranty, they can fix the sunroof squeak, overall I still love the car.

I bought mine in May 2002, a 2003 Type-S. I don't have the build date with me but it was in late April. To date I have about 9200 miles on it.
Not one squeak or rattle.
The tires are OK but not great.
I am getting 29+ miles per gallon on highway trips and about 23 mpg in everyday driving.
I have no trouble starting in cold weather and the transmission is not giving me any indications of problems.
I did my first oil change at 4500 miles with Mobil 1 and am planning to do the next at 10000 with Amsoil.
I've got one door ding so far and two or three small dings on the hood from hail. Other than that it is like new.

I have a small ding from a Palm tree nut thingy. Pissed me off.
Can I fix the sunroof? Would silicone lube work? What do they do to fix it? I have seen this question asked before, but never saw an actual answer.
I have had 2 oil changes already. I drive 60+ miles per day in heavy traffic and highway.
I average about 325-360 miles per tank.

If you never came to a board like this you wouldn't be worried in the least and you'd be loving your car. Boards like this make people paranoid.
As you said, the problems you have had are minor... and all easily repairable except the torque convertor. That's just the way it works.. and b/c of how it works is how you average 325-360 miles per tank driving 60+ miles daily in a heavy traffic/highway mix.

I am in Montreal and it is presently -17 C (3 F) and I don't have any problem starting it in the morning.
What is your definition of Hard start in cold?
By hard start, do you mean that the car starts up fine but makes a "banging" type noise? If so, the noise is coming from the motor mounts and is normal.........(at least that is what 2 different dealerships told me!)
Stop worrying about what other people say. If your car is fine and not giving any hints of problems then you should be in love with it.
Believe it or not, my 99 TL will be 4 years old in six days and I love it more now then I did before.:p

There are two fixes for the sunroof depending on what your dealership prefers...or how lazy they are... not sure which
One is using teflon tape which is a more time consuming process, the other is lubing it, which is what my dealership chose to do... that was at least 6 months ago and the squeaks haven't returned.

I bought my '03 in March this year. I just rec'd my extended tranny warranty. So far, I have put 17k miles on it.
Just like you, relatively small/minor problems, but other than that, everything has been sweet. I'm loving my car!
When I lived in the US I took my vehicle to Park Avenue Acura (shout out to Wayne G!) and told them about the squeak. 45 minutes later my car was back, cleaned and squeak free.
