Starter question.......

Ok, I'm sitting in the drive thru @ Walgreens pharmacy waiting to fill a prescription. Trying to save a little gas, I cut the car off. 5 min later I turn the key and I hear a ticking sound. At first I thought it was the battery cable b/c it tends to come loose. I popped the hood and it was fine. Then I thought the alternator but then I thought about the starter. I tested the battery and its putting out 12v. Any insight?? And how much do starters run?

What year is your car? There is a recall on the ignition switch for '99s

Possibly a starter. Call your local auto parts stores for prices, they will be cheaper than the dealer. They arent hard to change on the TL.

its easy to change and a lot of room to work with. try hitting the solenoid with a bat, pole, hammer,.. and see if it turns over. if u get it started its most likely it starter but never hurts to get it tested to make sure.

It was the battery. Problem solved. The voltage meter was reading 12v, but it was still no good.....

Thanks for the input.
