Angry SRS light came on!! Need help!!

My SRS light came on. So I took my car to the dealer and they said it is the passenger seat tension. He also said that it was not covered under warranty and will cost $480.00. I owned my car for two months. I am in college and I can not afford to pay this price. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Call Acura Client Services. How many miles do you have and what year is your car? Seatbelts are covered for the life of the car, I thought?

You're young and they may just be trying to rip you off, so call Acura Client Services at 1-800-382-2238 and tell them what's going on.

Passenger seat tension = Seatbelt ?

If that is consider the seatbelt, then YES it should be cover. I had the same problem a few weeks ago with the SRS lights, took to the dealership, and they said it was cover under warrenty. I should have ask them which parts it was GL though, bitch at them and say this is a safety issues and ACURA should cover in such cases.

Maybe I assumed too much in this thread. I assumed by passenger seat tension he meant the seatbelt tensionER on the passenger side. Perhaps he didn't.

since your airbags and seatbelt pretensioners won't work if your SRS light is on. Same principle as ABS and it's light - if the light's on, the system is shut down.

he probably means the unit thats in the seat that has been known to go south on the TL. If it is it has Nothing to do with the seat belt.

IMO if they're going to make seatbelts have lifetime warranties because they are vital safety devices, the same should be true for ALL SRS components. Wouldn't you agree?

well every thing should have a lifetime

as for something electrical, its not going to happen. The belts on the other hand are a item that has the chance to get worn from use and i think is mandated by law that has that warranty????

Yeah it's a law, and I'm assuming it comes from the idea that to protect people that don't have the resources to fix such vital components, its best to make the manufacturers pay. That's why this should also be true for airbags and all that entails.

Well then they should have to pay for headlights and tail lights when they burn out too since they are vital saftey components (fsttyms playing devils advocate tonight )

Police stop you when you have headlights out and taillights out and tell you to repair them, and it's usually not expensive. What's the headlight gonna do when it hits the tree?

I know I know if it was working the tree would've been visible. Maybe they should just give everyone new cars every year, then.

Well if you couldnt see the tree with 1 headlight you obviously chouldnt be driving where ever your driving

yup you get pulled over and told to fix it but in the end YOU have to pay for a vital saftey component

try this found it in the 2nd gen CL forum

The tool you need is a 4 dollar part or a paperclip will do

Here is the proceedure

1. Turn off ignition

2. Connect the SCS service connector to the 2pin wire you take out of the drivers fuse box and is now hanging from a thicker harness.

3. Turn on ignition

4. SRS light comes on for 6 sec and then goes off. Before it has been off 4 sec, Remove the SCS connector.

5.SRS light turns on again. Reconnect the SCS service connector withen 4 sec of light coming on

6. Light goes off, remove connector witeh 4 sec after light went off.

7. SRS light blibks 2 times telling you the memory is erased.

8. Turn ignition off.

That only works when you know the cause of the light, such as if you disconnected an SRS harness. This won't accomplish anything when there's a real problem.
