Spoiler/brake light question

I have had my TL for a little over a month now. I have the OEM spoiler and it was dealer installed. I noticed that the brake light works on the spoiler but the center mount light in the rear window does not light up when the brakes are applied. Is this a typical installation or should both light up?

My initial reaction to what I saw was "that ain't right".

Yeah that is correct. they unplug the 3rd brake light in the rear window to plug in the trunk spoiler. I like that the rear window light doesnt light up. The guy who tinted my window, went all the way to the bottom so you dont even see it anymore.

It's illegal to have center light on when you have spoiler light. But I have seen other cars with three lights on : Break, spoiler and center light.

It usually depends on the dealer. They are supposed to disconnect the rear deck CHMSL when they add a spoiler with one built-in. Not all of them do. It's not required and you will see cars running around out there with both of them. IMO it looks bad to have both, and it sucks that we can't easily remove the "dead" one once the spoiler is installed. I got to used to it quickly though and don't even notice it now.

I've also see cars with both on and don't like it one bit.

The brake light in the TL window is nicely snug on the bottom and you can't even really tell its supposed to be a light.
If it was one of those goofy things that GM puts in there cars I would have ripped it out.

My TL is the 3rd car that I have owned with factory spoiler with LED brake light. This is normal for the inside brake light to be un hooked. My 1st car with this type spoiler was a 90 ACCORD the 2nd was a 94 ACCORD & my 2000 TL. All spoilers were installed by dealers & the inside 3rd brake light is not hooked -up.

Same with me. I like the fact that they went all the way down with the tint.

Thumbs up

I have the rear spoiler too, but I didn't notice that both were still lighting up. My window tint guy pointed it out to me and showed me that the rear light was only HALF lit.

He explained that one plug is removed and plugged into the rear spoiler. Since I thought the rear light looked pretty lame being only half lit... I asked him to fully disable the rear light. Now only the spoiler lights up!

Man, Vincent--you believed that??? Both bulbs on the center brake light are still supposed to light up even with the spoiler brake light!! You must have a defective car... j/k, of course.

I noticed that, too--the Asian cutie connected the one plug back into the center brake light not knowing/remembering that it was disconnected to begin with; then later on my bro pointed out that just half of the center brake light was operating...

Hey sorry to bother you but I just wanted to know how did he plug in the spoiler light to work instead of the center light. I really want my spoiler light to work but I don’t know how to.
