Question Somethings leaking underneath the car....

When I was under the car, I looked up and noticed that a section of the car was "wet".
It maybe near the fuel tank, its almost directly to the right of the drivers side rear tire. It covers a square area. It's not leaking onto the ground but I am concerned. Anyone else have this problem?

Or could it be the water from AC?

It's been since Friday since I drove through some sprinkler runoff. It should have dried by now (it's been hot) and I did not notice any other area that was wet.
I will have the lousy dealers (mainly the service)in this area take a look at it. I was using Stevens Creek Acura and they suck; but I will try Los Gatos Acura this time

I doubt it is water from the AC all the way at the rear of the car....did you "smell" it? Color? If it's kinda "greasy" looking, it could be the half shaft.

Street, it is greasy looking and black. I did not smell it. What is a half shaft and do I need to be concerned?

No, definitely not the AC. Anyone no what a half shaft is like Street mentioned and if it's covered under warranty?

Thumbs up

blackTL2k:

that's a bummer your car is leaking something. Are you sure you didn't drive over roads like newly paved tar or other crap? If it's fuel, you would probably smell it already. By the way, where did you buy your K&N filter? How much and how do you like it? Too bad, i didn't have a chance to check out your car at the BBQ. Good luck. By the way, try going to the Mike harvey acura service department. They are very nice, I got my moonroof and seatbelt fixed there just last week.

I got my filter on line, I just went to Yahoo shopping and it pulled up some good prices. The air filter is the same as the Accord V6. You can get them at Pepboys or any large retailer as well. When I first drove the car w/ the K&N filter, I did notice a little more pickup; after a couple weeks, I don't really notice it. I did race a new V8 Camaro and blew it away, it must have been the filter: NOT it was the other driver.
I made an appointment with Stevens Creek Acura because Los Gatos did not have any available times this week (for folks who inquired about Los Gatos service).

Please correct me if I am wrong but, except for the fuel tank and brake lines, I don't believe there is anything back there with liquid in it. There are no half shafts on the TL, the hubs consist of sealed roller bearings.

If it is under the trunk, did you possibly spill something in the trunk and it leaked through? Is there a brake line in the area that is leaking? Fuel tank? Did you or someone else bump that area with a grease gun while lubricating?

I really doubt it is mechanical. It's probably road tar.

Definitely no spillage in the trunk. Thanks for the heads up on the half shaft. It maybe fuel or brake fluid; I'll crawl under and take a whiff. I don't think it's road tar because I cant see it getting to that part of the car, the wheel well maybe but not towards the center of the wheels. I am taking it in on Wednesday and I know I will have to tell the Acura service people what it is; otherwise they won't figure it out (knowing this dealer).

Should be covered, sounds to me like you had a seal back there that went out. I'd get it looked at ASAP....

A slight correction to my previous post. What I meant to say is that there are no half shafts on the REAR of the TL. The axles (or half shafts) are just up front.

Even so, there is almost(never say never ) no way for for their grease to get that far back on the car.

Let us know what the dealer finds.

The dealer said it was just undercoating. They also returned my car with my front WW skirt halfway off! They took it back and said they fixed it. Looks ok but I'll have to wait and see if it holds. They also said they would wash the car and did a half ass job! Water spots everywhere, it looks like they just hosed it down. This dealer is the worst!! Stevens Creek Acura will never get my MDX purchase!! I hope the other Acura dealers are much better.
