Something happened to my AC today.

So it was raining on my way home and my windows started to fog up. I turned the AC on to suck out all the humidity and noticed that my engine felt really sluggish. I hadn't used it in a while and didn't think anything of it since it's always sluggish with the AC on. Anyway, as I approach my house (after about 30 minutes of driving with it on both in traffic and on the highway), I noticed my windows started to fog up again. I turned the AC off and then on again and heard the compressor click but it didn't feel like it was on (engine was not sluggish at all). When I opened my door, I smelt a really bad burning rubber smell so knew something was wrong. The AC compressor still clicks when you turn it on so I don't think my compressor broke. I was thinking it might have been the belt that snapped. I didn't get a CEL (not sure if it is supposed to come on if this happens) and it was raining so I didn't look into it in detail. I'll have a look at it tomorrow.

What are your thoughts?

the ac belt is the same one that uses for alternator ac pump....so if that snapped your lights would go dim and battery would get no power to it........

Sounds like your compressor locked up.

Doesn't sound good... I'm guessing this would require a new compressor. How much should I expect to pay for something like this, $1000?
