Smooth shifting in cool weather

Well summer is basically over here in toronto and weather has gotten fairly cool at nights. Symptoms of rough shifting from 4 to 3 or 3 to 2 or 2 to 3 are basically gone. Car shifts like new. I was really worried my transmission was in trouble. Not sure why summer heat really affects my shifting so much.

when was the last time you changed the fluid?
sounds like the fluid was getting hot with summer temps

Exactly what I was thinking.
Might want to look into installing a transmission cooler. Cheap insurance based on the symptoms you're describing.

Transmission fluid was changed in June or July can't remember exactly. With dw-1. Where do I get a transmission cooler installed?

I find my tranny shifts hard when its hot out and i got the AC on car also feels sluggish. With the AC off much smoother shifting and better performance. I dont know why the AC drags so much power! I heard some 3G guys also complaining about this issue.

this is a diagram of a track TL eliminating the AC pulley.

as you can see with the AC pulley in place the belt has to go around it. parasitic loss from more pulleys. the engine has more work to do.

dont change the transmission fluids, if theyre not already changed on a regular basis.

your transmission is used to the fluids running with it right now, and if you switch the fluids out with new fluids it wont correspond right and will result in a tranny failure
youre better off just leaving it if its not done on a regular basis

i disagree. since the ATF change after 5 years, the car runs much better now. my 0-60 time improved to 7s from 7.7 since there is no more gear slippage and tranny is smooth again.

nkroll while your statement does have some merit, the TL trans prob with fluid change tends to be on units with 100kmiles and never been changed!!

with our problem of heat in the clutch packs, the new honda dw1 seems to be helping out even those with shift shudder issues

NOTE thats using honda fluid-
they discontinued our original stuff, and this DW1 is totally approved for back-year use/mixed with old formula, or they would still make the old stuff for us
and require full fluid change when switching

Its not a great idea to change ALL the fluid immediatly on an older TL trans
Meaning if its already on the way out-slipping etc. the clutch friction material will get `washed away` and into the TC where it causes major clogging problems
Once its going, no amount of fluid will save it

If your warranty replaced or otherwise rebuilt trans has under 50kmiles- get on a yearly change program now
