Post Silly Kill!!! :)

Went into the city last night to a club. I pull up to the red light next to a really hooked up Integra TypeR. Aftermarket exhausts, probably springs, may be a charger (it sounded like it). That yellow bird looked like it came off the race track. The dude behind the wheel looks at me like a have a Geo Metro or something. I got the idea that he wants to see what TypeS can do.

To make a long story short, when he pulled up to me on the next intersection, he new for sure what TypeS means.

Interesting...I would of thought a stock 195HP inegra type R would of been a threat...not alone a fully modified one.

You missed the point of the story. TypeR is not a threat, but he thought he was.

Sweet. I know how the guy felt though. I was tired of having people blow me away in my GS-R until I converted to the TL-S.

Now I have to FIND cars to compete with.

I call it being "Quietly effective."

You quietly roll up next to them at the stop light, they look at you with nary a care in the world and then you effectively stomp them.

Finding your bliss in a TL-S!

No I got the point of the story just fine. I was just mentioning that I would of been one of the people (like the driver of the type R) who would of thought that the Integra type R would be a threat. I'm accually glad to be proven wrong! Hmm...although I still think that a fully modied out type R is a threat (call me conservative). I'm even carefull going against civics, since a fully modified civic has one of the fastest quarter mile times I've ever seen. I saw a Hyundai Tiboron the other day on the freeway and was wondering if I should take him on...but then when I saw that he stripped the interior out of all carpeting and unnecessary door panels I backed off.

You killed a TypeR?

Um, ok. Cuz, I can't seem to get more than a few inches on one. And you dragged a modded 'R?? The only way I'll believe this is if I think the driver in the 'tegra couldn't shift worth a darn. 'Tegras will consistently pull high 14's in the 1/4-mile -- I've seen many a time slip. I think it's more likely you raced a modded GS-R w/ coffee can exhaust and some DC Sport Headers (they'll change the sound of stock a little bit) .. don't think you raced an 'R.

TypeR's are very very rare .. I hardly ever see one.

The aftermarket mods might have screwed up the type-R. The type-R has been highly tuned by Honda right out of the factory, such as tuned intake runners, tuned header and exhaust. Any aftermarket mods, other than forced induction or nitrous, may have little or even negative effect on the original tuning and power output of the car.

I have seen an article on comparing the dyno charts on different headers and exhausts installed in a GSR. Some shitty ones lost more than ten horsepowers in the low and midrange, and only gain a peak of 2-3 horsepowers at the very top end of the rpm curve.

The only way to tell the difference between a type R and a regular is the moonroof. No type R has one every single other integra does. This is the easiest ways to tell if it was an R.

In Canada, the best way to differentiate an GS-R & Type R is the wheel. Type R has 5 bolts and GS-R has four only

I'm pretty sure the TypeR driver couldnt drive. A TypeR with mods will beat a TL Type-S.

I had a fun one this afternoon...

I'm cruising at around 70mph in the left hand lane with no one else in sight on a lonely two-lane rural highway when this kid in a big Dodge Ram pickup comes roaring up behind me and plants himself a few feet away from my bumper.

He came up so fast, I didn't have a chance to get in the right hand lane. Ok, be a jackass.

I let him pass, wait until he's about half a mile ahead of me, then get back in the left hand lane, pass him at around 80mph, and keep cruising.

He changes lanes, comes roaring up behind me again in the left hand lane, and hungs my rear end again. What a moron.

I let him pass again, and wait until he's about half a mile ahead of me.

I get back into the left hand lane, and cruise by him at around 90mph.

Here he comes again... anyone doing 90mph in a pickup must have a screw loose somewhere.

This time I slowed up a bit and waited until he caught up again, and then just let the TL/S engine roar as he disappeared in the rear view mirror.

After about a mile of doing 100+ mph, he was way behind, so I slowed back down to 70mph.

As he caught up and passed me, I just looked straight and smiled. He gives me the finger and floors his truck, belching out a bunch of gray smoke from his exhaust. Gee, I guess he finally won!

I love this TL/S :-)

Edgalang... go live a little and see what your Type-S will do. I haven't broke mine in, yet, but have had fun. When a light turns green, I sit there a tick and let someone get a jump on me, then I hit it and fly by them within a couple hundred feet. I saw some kid in a Del Sol si (which are already quick) with at least ^ exhaust, and suspension. I was worried at first, until he finally pulled up next to me at the next light. Oh what fun...

I raced my friend's MR2 Turbo in my TLS and it was close but I lost....
He just got a good jump on me in the beginning as I'm not too comfortable brake torquing on a car w/ 3200 miles on it and oh man what a beautiful sound it was listening to his blow off valve going off...I think it was the start what got me...I forgot to turn VSA off which I don't even know if it would have helped all that much...but I was maybe like 1 1/2 - 2 carlengths back...but it was a very short race just for fun...didn't even get through 3rd gear...but he admitted if it went on longer that I would have caught him...

Nevertheless he was impressed at the way my "big car" was able to keep up with his MR2...

I believe the 200HP MR2 Turbo is 0-60 in 6.2 seconds which is onpar with the TLS

I agree.. the performance improvements of aftermarket mods are very suspect and at most very minor. Motor Trend had an article about this and basically highlighted the fact that you can't spend $300 to "fix" a suspension that the manufacturer spent millions to research and develop!!

If getting serious performance was this easy then why wouldn't everyone just buy a Integra Type R and modifying it instead of spending the big bucks to get a Porsche?

Also, I believe only the Type-R came in Yellow.....none of the other Integras did......some earlier Integras did not have the moonroof (RS)....

I believe the modifications were what screwed up this particular Yellow Type-R, which is a true Factory tuned racer (equipped with a Torque Sensing Limited Slip Differential unlike the other lesser Integras) which can also be driven on the streets.....

Incidentally, for people not-in-the-know, in SCCA Pro Racing's Speedvision World Challenge race series, Acura Integra Type R's have won the Touring Car championship every single year since the car's 1997 debut. They dominated the 1998, 1999 and 2000 race seasons, taking the first, second and third slots in the final standings. Pretty impressive for a front-wheel-drive car competing with a field full of AWD and RWD competitors....decimating and humiliating the RWD and AWD competition....

The Type R also had viscous limited slip, and put those 195 ponies to the ground better than the GS-R modified.

Point of the story -- this guy did not race a Type R. .. and if he did, he lost.

The LSD in the Type-R is not a viscous LSD, which is a cheap implementation of an LSD. The LSD present in the Type-R is a more expensive and highly effective Torsen set-up pretty similar to the Quaife LSD...The immediacy of response of a Torsen LSD cannot be compared to the cheaper viscous LSD...
