i think acura covered their ass one the lemon law by issuing the recall...or they covered it someother way because if not we would all have a new TL....

Lemon law is about cars in the shop repeatedly and for more than 30 days and simply cant be fixed- they carry bad karma or whatever. Some may know this as Monday Friday build cars

So our cars have a transmission problem and the maker is giving free replacements to 109 thousand miles. What a deal!!!
Do you know how many cars are ready for the scrap pile at that mileage?

Those with replacement trans should be in the habit of annual fluid changes.
Easier than a home oil change!!

And maybe go to a high performance driving school aka track day- and have a pro driver ride with you to see if you are stressing the trans by your style.
Brakes slow the car down, SS mode is for selecting the right gear for the exit of the corner, not to slow the car down
Transmission $4000
Brake pads $100
You decide

Read up on lemon laws and how they work.

Plus they didnt issue a recall for the trans. The issued it for a part for it for a completely UN-related issue

Unfortunately all of your assumptions are untrue. The poor design of the 3rd gear clutch pack causes premature failure regardles of driving skill, fluid changes, SS vs. auto.... It really doesn't make much difference.

Obviously Acura still hasn't figured it out.

I do not wish to argue with a mega mod BUT

Thrash driving puts wear on ANY car
Using the cluthes in the auto-trans as your braking sysytem is not efficient
So 3rd gear had weak clutch pack which have hopefully been resolved
Keeping fresh fluid in anything is better for it
Look at the problems other cars have and the maker does not stand up behind their product.

If your Ford trans/motor,whatever- dies at 60-70 thou, the dealer would look at you and say "Bummer dude- you need a new ride or $5000 and Have a nice day!"

Track Day driving school will make anyone a better driver, safer and more aware and skilled. Most come away wondering how they have survived all these years!

Transmission make car go faster, brakes make car go slower!!

Thats probably the number one reason we bought a Honda product. So we don't have to go through crap like this!

Ok
I agree this is supposed to be a superior quality product, and the reason its our 2nd Acura
And for whatever reason they used cheap design and parts on the trans 3rd gear pack
So they cover you to 109k- I'm happy with that- and I am on the replacement unit

Tell me what other major failure threads exist for our cars?

Most parts need replacing because of accident involving contact with a solid object.

The price they charged new or you paid for used car is not related to their production cost.
Want a real nightmare? Honda/Acura is not the only ones with Tiptronic. The VW's use it and they have probs of their own.

tk321

New front mount is 120 part and 30 labor did they say it was more-
often they FORGET its easier and less time with the trans removed-
per their repair book .3 hrs to replace with trans removed
otherwise 2.5 hours! @ 95 per hour

The side mount is about 30 and 30 the rear/trans mount I dont know

CAll The Service MANAGER and make sure they are adding the numbers right

If you have registered your car at www.acura.com and it will say trans extended warranty 7 years 109 thousand miles OPEN

There was a recent court decision that raised it for all of the covered VIN numbers
