B-034: Sigh...AEM CAI... [EXPLITIVE DELETED]... KENNEDY IS RIGHT... SIGH
Well everyone knows how beloved Kennedy is with all of us... his wit... and his devil advocacy (if thats even a correct term)... sigh...
HE'S RIGHT THO... read on
so I am installing the P2R ThermoBlock Spacer, which I've had in my backseat for I dunno 2 months... So ok everything is going by smoothly I've done these a handfull of times when everyone was going OUTLAW ENGINEERING CRAZY... No problem...
so readers... I pop the hood, stare at the tiny power-making v6 these honda engineers so gladly created for us... 3.5liter mmmh I am in love... but wait my intake seems to me off center ... I put my hand on it and it is wobbly... so I am like damn cheap as vibramount...
BUT I WISH IT WAS THAT CRAPPY VIBRAMOUNT...IT IS NOT
SO MUCH FOR PAYING $225 FOR AN ALUMINUM TUBE THATS SUPPOSED TO GAIN HP...
I wish I would've kept my damn russian space suit on
Anyway... BUYER BEWARE... THIS IS SOME BS RIGHT HERE... sorry for the vendors who've been making chump change selling these... but sigh... it just isn't worth it... so I say to acurazine... AEM... DEAD IN MY BOOK
More pics of the damage
[YES THAT IS A HOLE... 2"x1" in size]
ps. Dear, Kennedy; you were right but your always either on the mark or a skeptic... never in the middle... why?
and to AEM... gee your quality CONTROL FUCKING SUCKS THIS WAS ON MY CAR FOR 500MILES
Guess I will install a V2 I have... I have another just in case someone is interested in it

Yep, I should of stayed stock... So in other words, a good jerk of the engine, and this thing will break like cheap plastic.... awesome!
Isn't there a warranty from AEM?

AEM will warranty that. Just send them a picture and your invoice from whomever you bought it from and they'll send you a new tube. This has only happened to a few ppl, out of probably thousands of members who have an AEM CAI. Also I would recommend cutting an inch off the AEM CAI on the TB side since the P2R spacer and gaskets push the TB out an inch so there is no unnecessary stress on that vibra mount from being pushed out.

see the thing is there was space between the spacer and the tube... since it broke around the welds... my guess is poor weld...
as for gaining power from the hole... on the contrary, I felt like my car was lagging, I figured it was because of the weather... but we had unseasonably cold weather with low humidity and I wasn't feeling the usual kick...
meh... like josh said I contact "tech@aempower.com"... with the above pictures and with the invoice from the distributor I got it from... also with my phone number on there like it was explained when I called 310-484-2322
it is a little disheartening to hear this has happend before... had something been sucked into the motor I would've been fucked
regardless of this... I urge everyone with an AEM CAI... ignore the vibramount and check the weld around the bracket... go and check now... you really do not want any debri.. ie, electrical tape from an hid kit install or something like that to fall near it and end up in ur motor

So you had the P2R aluminum throttle body spacer on?
If thats the case the mount probably failed because of the added stress from the spacer pushing against the intake tube engine movement certainly didn't help. If you do get this one warranteed, cut off enough from the throttle body side to accomodate the spacer. If i remember correctly the AEMs are the same diamter up to the throttle body.
If you didn't have the aluminum spacer on and it failed, then its poor welding.

I've had my P2R spacer+gasket on at the same time as my AEM CAI and so far there has been no issue. I check my CAI every now and then when I saw what happened to Blackura. My car has been lagging lately though.. but I think that's because I'm nearly 5000 KMs late for service A13. [blah bad me]. I've had the CAI [didn't cut it] and P2R spacer/gasket on for probably close to 6 or 7 thousand KMs [not miles]. So I don't see how the P2R would add on that much stress on the intake.

Its poor welding whichever way you look at it.. If you look at the pic you'll notice how cheap the aluminum is... The fujita is much more durable
Anyways I have a pair of V2's to play with

Stillhere, you have to share your thoughts and opinion about the V2 once you install it =]
I'm sure we all want to see how much of a step-up the V2 is from the AEM CAI or other CAI out there.
I've been waiting on the V2 since forever xP

The AEM's are much larger than the throttle body, and connect with a reducer.
and the weld didn't fail... the tube was ripped completely off, as noted above. Clearly AEM's use of a larger diameter tube of a thinner gauge has made it weak... part of the tubes strength is the smaller diameter.
p2r... you know my opinion on that. Why Al... Why?
Good luck getting a warranty service.
and Al, I'm never trying to be smug in my posts... only trying to passionately preach the truth to my flock, and bring some science and knowledge to this place.

ive had that happen plenty of times on intakes....it happens from over tightening and shift in an unatural position.....AEM will not warranty it and they will tell u its ur fault....i got mine rewelded at a friends shop so still if u need it fixed let me know he'll do it as a favor and the welds are massive so there's no more breaking it.
oh and check ur side motor mount if its broken the intake def took the hit for it.... thats how it happened to me

Mine was on forever before I changed to the supercharger setup with custom CAI...was running Outlaw spacers...and never had an issue once? Weird.
Note....if you want a new AEM intake tube I can sell you one. I have one sitting in my office on the floor at home along with an Injen unit. Dont need either.

Well... I have both the AEM and P2R Spacer installed for a long time and no issues...
Hey AL... just holla at me... I got a place in the BX that will weld that baby up in 2 minutes... and it'll be stronger than ever... if you're not interested I'll give you 10 bucks for it...
Same thing happened to a TL that didn't have a P2R spacer or thermalBlok spacer... I just think it's lack of quality control at AEM...

I have car ADD

Al... i totally missed this thread all week
check out mine from march
https://acurazine.com/forums/ramblings-12/premium-gas-price-survey-175862/
same thing happened to me... but it was actually my own fault
the P2R spacer wouldnt fit with the intake and the vibra-mount... SO... i flipped the vibra-mount around, so the rubber portion was outside the intake bracket, and the bracket was bolted to the car (thus giving me like 1/4" more room)
the serious engine movement when going WOT, eventually broke mine in the SAME EXACT SPOT..... AEM sent me a new one, i ripped the whole engine bay apart, and was able to reinstall everything 100% proper fitment, and no issues since....

Three Wheelin'
the intake is useless anyways, its only good for sound in my oppinion. I have a k&n and i think its much more of a quality product then aem as we can see here. But now im thinking the put it back as a short ram since i would avoid another problem then . Thats nothing compared to having watter sucked trough it ...
