That would be 1st gear to the left and 2nd gear to the right, D3 is up one and so on. When you are shifting this way it's called gate shifting.

Also note that if you start out with the gate in 2, your car will be sluggish because it will be in 2nd gear (not 1st gear from a dead stop). From a dead stop, 1,3,4,5th gate will start you out in 1st gear.

only if you're racing cause you can hold 1st gear longer. I've noticed that when I shift from 2nd to 3rd through the gate the shift is quicker. With SS, when I shift up, there is slight delay before it shifts.

actually I find more the opposite, I find that when gate shifting, I have to shift somewhere around 6900-7k RPM or else I bounce off the rev limiter, thus losing a **** load of time. In SS mode, it pretty much shifts instantly, give or take like 0.2 seconds.

With gateshifting or SS do you have to let off the gas for a sec to shift? or do u just keep on it and shift.

just keep on it and shift, but keep in mind that if you're flooring it, and almost at the redline, you must shift early in order to not bounce off the rev limiter.

later

don't put at 2nd to start, coz it starts at 2nd gear!!!
honda puts 2nd gear as the winter purpose~

SS is better if u know when to shift...around 6800rpm...
