Shark Fin Antenna...Anyone have one?

Do any of you guys have a shark fin antenna to cover the lame black one that sits on top of our cars? I'm looking for a WDP one and dont want it to look cheesy. And will this cause problems in reception etc.?? If you do have one please post pics or let me know where you got it. Thanks. This is exactly what I'm looking for...where do i get one?

What is the antenna for? The radio antenna is built into the rear window isn't it?

What year is this car?

I have an 01 TL-P with NAVI and have no such ugly wart on the roof.
I never saw on on a 2nd gen model.

In recent years I have noticed that many new models have that
absolutely stupid looking doral fin on the back of the roof for Navi
systems. In most cases it just ruins the roof-line look of any
given model. People I can asked about it usually range from neutral
to hate-it. Never heard anyone actually say they liked it.

Did you paint the shark fin or was it painted when you bought it?

The black antenna on the 03 TLs is the OnStar antenna, not the Navi one, so replacing it would not affect your navigation system at all.

Yeah, that antenna is just for the OnStar system that nobody seems to use anyway.

These are all interesting points. Was the shark fin introduced soley
for the On-Star system?

For sure it is not needed for Navi pickup as earlier ones do not have it.

I'm looking at a Lexus Rx400h and one of the things I like roof-line wise
is that it is one of the few vehivles that do not have it.

At least the one in the photo looks rather small and unobtrusive.
Some models I have seen are rather large.

Please read the whole thread guys. It is NOT the Navi antenna, or it would be on all the CL/TL models with Navi. The Navi antenna is built into the rear deck. The black antenna found ONLY on the 2003 Navigation models is for OnStar and OnStar only.

No I will not be using On-Star ever. I do not want to take the on-star antenna off. What I want to do is cover up the on-star antenna with a white shark fin antenna that is shown in the first picture of this thread. Has anyone covered up the antenna with one of these shark fins before?

It doesn't look like that sharkfin in the first picture covers the antenna. That antenna is taller than the sharkfin, so he must have removed at least the black mast.

I've always been under the impression that the shark fin bends the antenna back.

I like the way the shark fins look. Now you can't say that you have never heard of anyone saying they like it.

And you are entitled to do pointless things to your TL if you so choose. However, I was simply making sure no one got the impression that the antenna is for the navigation. It is NOT for the Navigation when it comes factory. If you go through the trouble to wire it up to somehow function in the navi, that's your choice - but that's your TL and your TL only.

The TL/CL models that have the antenna from the factory are 2003 Navigation Models ONLY and the antenna is solely for OnStar.

Thanks.
