i wanna try this on my 02 tls with 130k miles on it, but im kinda confused about where to put the seafoam.

I know i put some in the gas tank and some where the oil goes, but how to i get it in the intake. I saw the pictures of the grey hose earlier in the thread but how do i get the stuff in there?

before i try seafoam on my car i used it today for the 1st time on a workers 1990 accord. i didnt think to drive the car before the seafoam but after i was actually surprised on how well it drove for a 16 yr old car. there was alot of smoke which was pretty cool and funny.

overall this seems like a really great product. im going to use this on my car next week.

also if i bought 2 bottles. i would put 1/2 bottle in the intake, 1/2 in the oil, and a bottle into the gas tank. that would be good right?

thanks
Ive never had to change out plugs afterwards. (but at your mileage if they havent already you should think about doing it soon)

Take off any hose that leads into the intake (ie vacuum) and it will suck it into the motor

I recently used sea foam and I had a hard time getting the hose off also but if you get another set of hands to help you it makes it a lil' easier, you can use a small flat head (kinda like the kind that comes in an eyeglass kit) to softly and I mean softly prey it and pull at the same time, again be very careful, but it worked fine for me.

No, vaccuum hoses are any of the black rubber hoses that are connected to the intake. Any one of those should work just fine.

Quick tip. Take a pliers and twist the hose to break it loose first. Then they slide off easier. Also if you take the pliers and pinch the hose just past teh barb its slid over and roll the pliers it will pull the hose off.

thanks guys

first off i just wanted to say thank you to all of the guys that know what they are doin and can help out guys like me....
I just recently saw all the great posts about seafoam and decided to try it out, my 2000 tl only has 38000 on it, but i its been feeling a little sluggish lately and i thought a little seafoam couldnt hurt, i put 1/3 of a can in the pvc tube and about half into the gas tank, i couldnt believe how much white smoke i got out of my exhaust, i really didnt think there would be soo much, right away i felt the car was smoother and less sluggish....definitely would recommend to anyone, even if you cant do much DIY stuff like me!

A big thank you to all who shared their knowledge and experience in this thread (and on this board in general).

My car is 'fermenting' as we speak. I knew exactly where to look for the correct vacuum line (thanks, optiq) and the correct steps to follow.

Thanks to kman156 for the accurate, yet comical, synopsis of events describing the smoke. I LMAO reading that last night.

You guys ROCK

Talking

Man-oh-man, the smoke!

Actually followed directions posted here to the T, but let it sit for about 45 minutes (unintentional).

Had a bit of a hard time on the restart, but once it did, DUDE! You couldn't see any of my neighbors houses downwind for about a minute.

The results: Definitely noticeable improvement!

Thanks again to all who shared their expertise.

Sure its a liquid. Liquid DOESNT compress. BUT having said that you couldnt pour in enough quick enough to do so.

Where to get SEAFOAM in Toronto

OK,

Seafoam is available at:
CarQuest - Open Early, Close Early
Part Source - Open till 9 PM

I specifically got mine from the Parts Source at Brimley and Sheppard at $9.99 a can.

Just look up the closest Part Source location to you, call them up and ensure they got it in stock

cool

brimley and sheppard is near my place.. goood stuff, i was gonna go down to carquest ... but couple of questions...

1.. do u take the vaccum hose off WHILE THE ENGINE IS ON and put it into the seafoam can so it can suck up about 1/2 a can?

2. do u put the seafoam (1/2 can) into the place where u put ur oil BEFORE u start the car?

3. do u only put 1/2 can for the gas portion (i'm thinking with the car off... common sense)

IF the answer to #1 is a "YES"... do u keep putting seafoam if the engine starts to stall? or do u just stop at 1/2 can and let it do its thing?

i didnt do my oil crank case, but i put 1 can in my gas and 1 can got sucked up the pcv valve, probably overkill, just wanted to
and i took the pcv line off while the engine is off, because i had a hard time getting it off
and i figured it would be easier that way.

well i didnt start the car with the line in the bottle
i started the can then dipped the line in and out until i sucked up the can
so my car wouldnt stall

put the valve back on
and waited like 10 mins

You must have gotten one of those cans of Seafoam that didn't have instructions on it.

Mike...

Mike.. i don't need ur sarcasim aite..... i read the instructions.. and it doesn't state anywhere if u should put the seafoam with the car on or off ... as well as dipping the PCV value in the seafoam can in or out...

and it it fails to mention outside factors like.... if ur engine will vibrate . or what u should do if it does.. etc..... SO STFU aite... geez i'm so nice on this forum.. ihelp ppl out whenever i can with their issues, when i get one.. i get sarcasim....

kris.. today is just not my day...

Everything you need to know about Seafoam in only 500 postings!
I picked up another can today and the parts clerk was- whats this stuff???
My experience- Warm the car first- then I give it a little throttle as needed to keep the engine running
then let it sit 15 minutes before restarting
Also cut the end of the vac line so you have a fresh tight fit there when finished

What store sells the can that holds 3 - half cans?
A little in the engine oil- engine OFF, about 50 miles before oil change
A little in the gas tank to clean the system and fuel injectors
A bottle of Lucas or Redline fuel system cleaner will enhance the injector cleaning while Seafoam will blast the carbon buildup from the piston tops and valves

thanks.. very helpful.. it would be better if the instructions provided an "engine off/engine on" during everystep... though its common sense... it makes it seem like u can put that shit in the oil crank without the engine being off lol....

puttin it in tomorrow morning! can't wait...

The use of sarcasm was my subtle way of saying this entire 6 page thread is all about Seafoam, from where to buy it, to how to use it, to almost how to properly dispose of the empty can. The thread even includes pictures of where the vacuum lines are and what a running, Seafoamed car looks like. This thread does everything but reach out of your monitor and pour the stuff into your car for you. All you have to do is read the thread.

seafoamed my 2000 tlp yesterday; I have 87000 miles it spit a decent amount of white smoke. It definitely seems to idle a little softer and pull a little harder. All in all, the pics earlier in this thread were easy to follow. I am waiting to do the crankcase until I am due for an oil change ( i just got a new tranny and they did the oil then too). Thanks everyone.

Well just for everyone who wants to seafoam their 150k motors, just be warned that I'v heard its not too great and can actually be detrimental. i guess if its a newer car with high mileage you'll probly be ok, but if its an older car with high mileage, you might actually lose power. I hear the seafoam can clean out all the carbon buildup around the valves and that carbon buildup may be keeping the compression on slightly chipped valves and such. maybe some1 knows if theres any truth to these thoughts

While it is possible that removal of the sludge thats keeping the engine together ...

I am hard pressed to believe that anyone smart enough to be on the acurazine forums ever lets their oil get so bad that sludge takes over the internals.
Routine use of quality gas with an additive and normal oil changes will prevent the hazards of the old days

I just did the 2nd treatment with Seafoam, 70 thou on the engine, did treatments 2k apart since this is a new car to me. Still put out lots of smoke from carbon- some of its just the seafoam burning off.

Now will change the plugs just because I am bored!

We are not talking old Chevys here folks!!!

just did mine this weekend...big difference in idling noise, and a LOT of smoke came out. First few times I started it it sounded like it was about to stall but then after it started up and burned through the crap it's normal again. wet plugs?

Also, gonna do oil change tomorrow before i break 100 miles...hopefully it smooths it out a lil more. Has anyone had problems with startup after the first few days of seafoaming?

When I seafoamed the vacuum line, it sputterd like it was gonna stall if i left it in too long, but my wife's car just sucked the whole thing up without a hiccup. Is that a bad sign for anything on my car?

Welcome to the Seafoam lovers club!

Because you are putting a solvent- not fuel- into the engine , it runs rough while doing and a rough start is normal first time. It should clear as you drive

Note to all- try sucking up a little bit at a time instead of sucking in the 1/3 can and stalling the engine

It is suggested by many that a good freeway run in a lower gear (3rd in the 5AT cars) will create the heat needed to burn off all the junk the seafoam dissolved, heat it up and it goes out the exhaust!

Some people over-use the seafoam in the intake or let it sit a bit long, extra smoke!!!

Depending on total mileage,- like over 70 thou-, you may want to replace the plugs now. With everything clean you will really notice the improvement
And go with the NGK Iridium spark plugs
A few dollars now save hundreds on the road

I would say the only way it would really hurt things is if your engine is real dirty all the carbon going on to the plugs might foul them. And then you would just change your plugs. But yes I have heard of cars that are so old and crappy the sludge is practicly holding the engine together.

Depending on total mileage,- like over 70 thou-, you may want to replace the plugs now. With everything clean you will really notice the improvement
And go with the NGK Iridium spark plugs
A few dollars now save hundreds on the road
Glad to be aboard!

My car is running much smoother now! Just needed to hit vtec a few times on the way to work...

As far as plugs, I actually changed them about 4-5000 miles ago before i heard of seafoam...u think i should change em? I know some members here went on regular plugs anyway. Is there a way to tell if the plugs are gummed up?

btw, after seafoaming, i was gona change my oil, but the last guy i brought it too ended up stripping my drain plug without telling me. So when I go to remove it in the blistering cold, i notice nothing is catching...(last time i ever go to tires plus for an oil change). I DO have tw extra plugs just in case, but any advice on how I can remove the strippde one? I'm worried about driving too much with the same oil after seafoaming...
