Salvage Title & Warrantee Issues

Ok, so I bought an Acura TL 2003 Type-S that had a Salvage title and needed an rear clip...my question is will acura fix my car under their 100k warrantee or not? The car was only hit in the trunk and the front of the car was never touched, I took photo's just in case they wanted to see where and what happend...even if they wont work on my car it was still worth buying, I'm just hoping they'll fix mine if something was to happen....thanks guys!

Depends on the problem, and your dealer. Dealerships do not have to honorthe warranty on a Salvage Titled car. Thats one of the concessions you make when you pay the lower price for a Salvaged car.

Ok, so there is a chance if I present my case (rear hit only) and find a dealer willing to work with me?

its always possible if they dont really look into the history of the car, as well as how cool the dealershpi is ... but there is a chance they will look at you and laugh

technically wonce a car recieves a salvage title the dealership is no longer responsible for any warrynty work

if they do a vin status on the car they will see the warranty is void. if you feel like paying for all your repairs than its the car for you.

dealer will not honor warranty if the vehicle is salvage, even if the problem is not related.

Exactly what he said. You're still eligible for recall campaigns like the oil jet kit, but any warranty will be void.

tranny issue, i would guess you have anywhere from a 50-75% chance of getting nailed. Pretty much everyone has had one replaced, some even had 3 or 4 replaced. good luck. i also read about a member with a salvage title whose dealer didnt run the vin, and replaced for free.

Gimme a break! His chance are less than 5% of it happening to him unless he races. There are 80,000 TL's made per year. This forum is not indicative of the whole TL community. There are alot of the people on this forum are people who race and beat there cars and also alot of people that didn't come to this forum until there tranny broke and found it while doing research on the tranny. The bottom line is you claims are crap and there are alot of drama queens here. I have 2 TL's 97,500/ 60,000 original trannies on both.

Just for future reference, how would the dealer find out that the car hasa salvage title? Do they run the title everytime you bring the car in or is it some automated computer service that notifies them?

Thats so great to hear, there's always 2 sides to every story, and while yes there is a problem 1 out of every 2 just seems high...thanks for your insight

You can find out for yourself. All u have to do is run a carfax report. Although I have heard it is not always accurate, there is a pretty good chance that if a car has a salvaged title it will show up on the carfax report.

hey scott, driving your car hard has NOTHING to do with whether your tranny is going to fail or not. Call your dealer and ask them...also, make two posts...one saying how many people have had tranny problems, and another with how many havent...and see how many people have had them after 100K miles..one member had his first go at 115K and again at 160K

PS---you've got to be shitting me if you think he has less than a 5% chance of his tranny failling. now that i think about it, i know personally 4 people who have stock TLs, and def. do not beat on the,. 3 of their trannies have failed, one of them twice. but maybe only the TLs in central NJ have such a concentrated transmission failure rate

To my knowledge, the reported # of tranny failures (across the whole TL, CL, Accord, etc) for the affected tranny is 1.5% (Can't remember where I read that). Mine still works fine, 26k miles.

After you paid for your Tranny, will you have any warranty from the dealer?
