Need Help Quick- bad tranny situation

My tranny just went on my 02 tl-s at 31k miles. unfortunately my car has a salvaged title (bought the car after an accident and had it fixed). i've been quoted around $4k for the new tranny with varying warranties. i'm 20 years old and i busted my ass to pay for this car myself and now im looking at another $4k to spend right before i go back to school.

does anybody have any idea if i could have any coverage under any type of warranty?

also, does anyone have any connections in a dealership or with any transmission people in the Massachusetts area?

is there any hope of repair rather than complete replacement

i need my car for work asap. any help would be greatly appreciated

Would the dealer know if your car had a salvage title?? Probably not. I would just take it into the dealer and say "I bought this car used awhile back and the tranny is failing. Since it is a 2002, they all are covered under the extended warranty till 100K". Just because you are not the original owner should not matter. 31K is resonable milage for an 02, so I doubt they would question the accuracy of the milage. Can't hurt to try this first.

I agree, you might as well check it out and see if they'll fix it for free. not sure if they can see the title information when they punch in your VIN, but I doubt it

well, i tried to slip it past them but it didn't work. i'm sure that if i took some time i might have been able to get some compensation, but i need my car for work. so i dropped it off at my mechanic yesterday to have a re-built tranny installed. the cost was $4100 with labor and evrything. it also includes a 50 month/ 50k mi warranty which includes towing and free loaner car should the tranny fail again. this situation sucks, but at least i didnt get hurt or hurt anybody while it was acting up.

i just wish that i had some more time to look into a 6-speed manual swap. now i just need to buy the oem body kit and pretend that it cost me $5k. i cant stand the thought o putting $4k into my car just to have back to the way that it was.

i'm sorry to hear it man. did you make sure the fixes acura is doing now were installed on your car? mainly there is a new ECU and the oil jet kit. if all they did was rebuild the tranny, then i guess you don't need the ECU, but you should still have the oil jet installed. if they bought a new tranny from honda then you will most likely need the ECU. let us know how it drives when you get it back. for $4k you prob could have gotten a velocity resources tranny that would hold up to more abuse. but i know time was a constraint for you.

That manual swap is the first thing I asked the dealer. I said, "This is number 2 for the tranny, how about just a manual transmission". He said no because I'd need a new computer and all the stuff and it can't be done. I know damn well it can, but it's not like it is owed to me.

swap would have been nice. i would have paid some extra cash but im sure it would take a long time to get it done. im not really worried about the tranny because the waranty is for five years and i'll sell the car before it runs out.

Have anyone tried to call Acura main office?
I dont understand this.
Lets say your car warranty was cancelled due to accident (salvage Title) but the transmission is a vell known issue and there is a recall on it so why Acura wont change it for free? its not the engine or other part that failing...

because its a salvaged title. once that is applied to a title manufactures are no longer responsible to honor/cover warranty related work. no car company does, its not just acura

But this is not a warranty question, this is a MANUFACTURE DEFECT and Acura knows about it

but the title is salvaged! it doesnt matter after that. like i said, every manufacturer applies teh same rule. thats the BIG negative behind getting a car with a salvaged title.

That's funny...my 96 Accord V6 has a salvage/reconstructed title.

I had an emissions warranty extension up until 150K miles come in the mail. About a month later, my engine checked it's light...hehe...so I pulled the code to find the secondary O2 sensor went out.

Brought it to Honda and they replaced the part which retailed for around $260 on the receipt. Luckily the warranty extension covered it. And the warranty also gave me a free oil change and new spark plugs and new spark plug wires.

I'm assuming Acura wouldn't cover the tranny just because $4K is no chump change.
