rpm??

hey guys im a noob so sorry if this is a stupid question.

I always hear my friend talking about "hi-rev" low-rev. What does that mean and is it better to have low rev?
i have a 00 tl and i was looking at the spec it says 215@5600rpm is that what its talking about?
And my other question is that are the 2nd tl generally considered high rev or low rev? thanks!!

RPM = revolution per minute. The gauges you have display in digits 1-8. These digits time 1000 will give you your RPM. What 215 @ 5600 RPM means that you will have a peak horsepower of 215 when the car RPM is at 5600. It is always good to rev low as it saves gas, but higher revs are for when you need the extra power when racing or being in a sporty mood.

if the motor hasnt been maintained, then yes. after long peroids of time and thousands of miles things wear out and get clogged. piston rings and valve seals wear, carbon builds up, spark plugs get old, injectors get gunked up or clogged, air filters get dirty and clogged... all those things result in lost power, but they are all pretty much preventable (or replaceable) by proper maintainence.

Many cars will have endurance tests and after even 100k miles run faster than when new.

So, if you maintain your car, e.g. normal maintenance like change the oil and filters, keep antifreeze full, and use good gas it will last you forever and will not lose power for many many MANY miles. Have fun with it.
