Road Trip, Need Advice

Hello Everyone,
I would really appreciate some advice. I'm taking a road trip with my wife to Maine from Illinois. I really want to take my 2001 acura tl with 165000 miles, third transmission, but I'm hesitant because I know from experience that the tl's tranny can go anytime. The car has been acting great as of late, but with the first tranny switch at 30k, the next at 92k, driving around at 165k makes me wonder when it'll happen again. The other plan is the father-in-law's car, but that's a lot of miles to log in a camry! Let me know what you think, you folks know these cars better than anyone. Thanks!

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it too much because I assume that it's going to be mostly highway miles right? That's a lot easier on the tranny compared to driving in the city where there is constant stop and go.

I Agree, I think driving @ Cruising speeds +80mph in 5th Speed let go alot of strain of the 3rd Gear Clutch pad.... Just stay as far away of 3rd gear and you should be Fine.

The TL is a Great Cruiser, Mine is just for that (Ive got the RSX-S for DD) Just hitting 180K in my TL-S Second Tranny, First failed at 114K.

If it has been a while, I like to add a little seafoam to the gas on long trips to help clean things out. Seafoam loves heat and I figure a long drive would be great to clean things up. Just my :twocents:

She loves to be rode long!

You folks are great! I knew I could rely on you to make me feel more confident. I do love my TL very much and was looking forward to taking it.
