Hey, has anyone here heard of the glass brand called CRIMINEX? I'm wondering if it is any good or not. My original windshield is by AP Tech, and I called 89Glass and they said their provider around here uses Criminex glass. I can find hardly anything on Google (or this forum) about them.

I looked into Safelite and I decided against using them, and getting the dealer's windshield was going to be $700+. I'll be getting this for $280 installed. But that's not really my concern...I'd pay $400 if it meant I was getting as good a windshield as my original.

 

ah, I found out it is spelled Crinamex...but still, not that much info out there on it on the internet.

 

IM not real sure but i think most Aziners go with the clear glass kind of wndshield. It offers better performance in the wind tunnel. LOL. Just kiddin man i dont know but i got mine replaced at the dealer for 375 a month ago

Good news (I think) - I asked how much more it would be for PPG glass instead of Crinamex and they said 50 bucks, so I said go ahead! There is scant info on this but PPG *seems* to be the reputable brand.

I put a huge spider crack into the bottom center of my windshield last Friday when I threw my cell phone onto the dash, and it bounced up and hit the glass. Really unlucky 13th.

But now I'm wondering what kind of seals/molding they are going to use...probably not OEM. Damnit, it's so hard to make sure your sh*t gets done right.

 

When I had the windshield replaced on my 1999 TL, I think the installer mentioned that it was best to use the OEM rubber trim for a decent look and seal. So you might want to ask about that.

And PPG is a solid brand.

 

So, I called up 89Glass and they said except for some thing that comes glued to the glass, everything else they re-use, such as the rubber windshield dam and seals. They said the dealer won't sell them the parts, anyway, and that you would have to get it done at the dealer. That I don't really buy, but their customer service has been very friendly and easy to reach otherwise so I won't make an issue of it.

At least they were able to get the PPG - and since they have the warranty on the installation, if there's any leak or anything they will service it.

And in case anyone reads this later on, Crinamex is made by Vitro. (www.vitro.com).

 

PPG glass is the choice of OEM manufacturers. 80%+ of Honda glass is PPG.

 

PPG glass is the way to go. Also i was told by 3 different glass places that they had to replace the rubber trim/seal around the windshield There wasnt any thing they could reuse.

 

Where did you get that 80% number? Because I've seen a pile of Hondas and Acuras with "AP Tech" windshields. That was the OEM glass on the second generation TL.

In any case, PPG is a top notch selection.

Well I like your method better than my method, which involves looking at cars in parking lots.

 

I just got the PPG windshield - it was installed around lunchtime...I stood out there in the heat watching the tech pretty much the whole time. All he replaced was the rubber trim that goes around 3 sides of the glass (sides and top). As far as I can tell, it was only #7 that he replaced (see below). Or maybe it was an aftermarket piece. It seemed like he was doing it right, but I'll admit I'm a little confused because the schematics of the thing show so many parts.



There weren't even other parts that he removed. He put back only the glass with something shaped like #7 wrapped around it, and then glued it into place. But the thing is, there were NO other pieces. I was watching it (though I didn't have the drawing above with me) the entire time. It seemed like he did a decent job, though. Time will tell, I guess. Everything is flush and it looks better than before. He messed up when he took off the rear-view mirror, though. He broke the small piece in the mirror that slides over the notches of the metal piece attached to the mirror itself (i.e. mounting spring). He's paying for the replacement, which is about $4.

 

Yes #7 is the piece that has to be replaced. Thats it.

 

That's what was replaced when I had a new windshield installed on my 1999 TL.
