replace radio unit in TL
how hard is it to replace the radio/cd/cassette player in the tl with a new stock one? Does it just involve simple screwing/unscrewing? Is there instructions for DIY anywhere? Thanks!
fyi, this is my first car and i don't know anything about cars (electronically or mechanically) but I can build and dissemble a personal computer from parts with no problems if that helps..

Here you go:
http://www.skyeflye.com/acura_cls/In...01-2003_CL.pdf
It's written for the Acura CL but the process is identical for the TL. It's a little time consuming but not difficult.
I used this guide when I replaced the OEM single CD unit in my 1999 TL with one of the 6-disc units from a 2002-2003 TL. Also, it's a great time to add something like a Blitzsafe adapter if you want to hook up an MP3 player, such as an iPod, to your car's sound system. (The sound quality is much better than FM transmittets and cassette adapters.)

+1 for the Blitzsafe instead of FM transmitter
Don't let the instructions intimidate you either. It is really easy just take your time and hold onto all the screws. Every time I take apart my dash I always have screws left over but have no idea where they go. I would say the hardest part is probably getting the wood trim off, but that's not even hard. You just have to pull at the right angle and they pop right off.
Good luck and be sure to post any problems if you are having them so we can help you out.

because tons of other people have done it already. i've done it. enter, wiring harness. you can still use the speakers (and sub workaround) but the general opinion is that the factory speakers dont sound as good when paired with an aftermarket headunit (as compared to the stock headunit)
sallendtp -- uncald4 (see 'for sale' forum under OFF TOPIC) sells dash kits.

I have seen his dash kits by uncald4 and think that I just might be able to do it myself. Now when bypassing the Bose....Don't you have to bypass the amp for it to even work? How bad is it going to sound? They are Bose, you wouldn't think that they are that bad at all.

....and is the headunit the amp? I thought there were external amps.

theres only one external amp for the sub, its located under the back seat..theres an eq unit behind the climate controls... i had a alpine 9853 in my 00 tl and compared to stock it wasnt as loud and clear..so im debating whether or not to switch out head unit in my a-spec.

Speakers
So if I changed out the door speakers, what are the sizes I should look for? Depth? I hear lots of things.........Maybe you guys could get me in the right direction. I'm not in a hurry now that I have to build my own dash kit.
