Removing Pinstrip
Removing Pinstrip
I have a 03 TL-S and what to remove the pinstripe. I would assume that it was put on by the factory. There is clear paint at the paint at the beginning and the end of the strip. Has anyone removed their stripe before? I have a Porter Cable polisher/buffer to take car of any discoloration. Any thoughts??
All you have to do is peel it up... It is pretty easy. It does leave behind a sticky trail of dirty along the edges of where the stripe was but you can get that off with soap/water/buffer. Good luck!

It might not be just that easy. Mine for example is painted on
I want it off...
well if you cant scratch up the side then its painted on
i know on my teg it was a decal and i just scratched and peeled the whole thing off
then i went back over it with a bottle of goo gone and got rid of all the stickyness
then did a whole detail just cause i felt like it

Mosts dealers have them professionally installed. Call your local deal and ask them who does their pinstriping work... Call the place that does the pinstripes and ask them for tips on how to remove it. A friend of mine did this a few years back and it worked wonders on his accord! It may look like paint but it's probably just a decal that was applied with a sealant. I would suggest a little goo gone to help losen the adhesive as well.
If it's a decal pinstripe then 3M makes a product called "Stripe off Wheel" which is basically just a big eraser that you attach to a cordless drill and it removes the pinstripe extremely easily. You have to be careful not to let it "idle" in one position because it will burn the paint. After you're done you still have to use an adhesive remover. Bad news is it is a little pricey ($37).
Was it painted under the clearcoat? You can try to use ur nail to scratch it to check it is is under the clearcoat. It it is, no way to remove it unless you repaint, if not, there are plenty way to clean it. I had the exact same exp as you few months ago.
