Post Remote car starter

Just the other day I saw a very sweet Audi Turbo, with some nice 20' rims. I was checking it out in a parking lot and then suddenly the car started and you can hear that nice rumble of the turbo in the car. Someone remotely turned on his car, it was so sweet. Does anyone have a remote car starter installed in their car? And does anyone know of a good brand to get a remote car starter cause I want one for my TL

You can buy an add on remote starter, but then you'll be carrying two remotes (one for the car, one for the remote start). I would suggest you get the whole alarm system replaced with a DEI system. Viper is great if you got the cash.

how much does a good system cost around? I saw alot of brands on Ebay for less than $100, but I'm not too sure about those brands.

well, i have the Viper 790XV. I love it, I got a pager remote, pretty good range, and remote start. The Guy that did the install also ran my factory remote trunk release to it as well. Overall I paid $250 w/ install...I got the alarm for dirt cheap from friend in Circuit City, who gets a crazy employee discount. Anyways, yeah Viper 790XV is what I recommend.

compustar is the best around. Let's you know everything going on with your car. Pricey but if you love your car...you'll get the best security for it. I got the SSW on mines. 1.25 mile range. And I tested it out, it really goes that far. Best brand out there. If you get compustar, make sure it's installed by a certified compustar dealer or technician or else your warranty is void.

You can go with any DEI unit...that covers Clifford, Python & Viper or you can go with the Compustar. I have a Python alarm/remote starter and love it. In the winter by the time I'm in my car in the morning it's all nice and toasty & in the summer it's nicely chilled.

Probably too late....but in NYC audio designs on 10th ave and 25th street. Just got a DEI remote starter installed on my TL for $250 (the lowest price that I have seen for the system and installation). The guys there are really nice and did a great job on mine.

I have a Ultrastart remote starter and just love it. Up here in Canada you need remote starters. Dont feel like going out in -40 deg F mornings to start your car. It has a two way remote that tells you everything. Doors open, Trunk open, Hood open, broken windows, running or not, and it even tells you the temperature inside the car. Good starter with about about 2 mile range without any obstructions. Nice to have the 2way communication so you know if it is running or not. I love mine......

Dunno who said the Compustar has been disappointing but I can tell you I love mine, its never given me a lick of trouble, and I've only replaced the battery twice in 2 years, and since it takes 1 regular AA battery, thats hardly any big deal. I was a professional installer for 15 years, and in my opinion the Compustar is a superior product.

Say I opt for a new alarm/starter unit. The frequency in our Acura Transmitter also links our memory seats and mirrors together. Will the new alarm system carry those frequencies over?

I might get the Avistart system. Install only 195.00 here in Chicago. No bells or whistles just an autostart. I'm probably going to keep my Acura transmitter because of the seat memories. Unless someone tells me otherwise.

Where can you get this unit? How well does it go with the stock alarm/seats?

I got mine at a audio/import shop. They have a web site www.ultrastarters.com . The stock alarm has to be bypassed by the remote starter, they just basically fool the car into thinking it is the factory remote. Im not too sure if the memory works on the seat?? I guess I will have to try it out. I bought mine for $405 CDN. They retail for about $550 CDN. I like it a lot. Ive used mine quite a bit this winter. I am happy with it !!

Is there any way for us to use our existing transmitters instead of using a 3rd party transmitter? This would definately let us retain our memory seat frequencies..

Does anyone know if you can set Viper to roll down the windows?

Also, i seen some guy installed with his alarm a neat feature, when you lock the car,it brings up the windows for him.

any ideas?

You have to use the transmitter that comes with the aftermarket alarm. I do have mine interfaced to turn on and off the stock alarm but as far as I know, it doesnt move the seats and mirrors back when I disarm the alarm, but come to think of it, I've never really noticed because I am the only one who drives the car. I think I will check it out later to see if it does. You only have to wire up or or two more wires to make the Compustar arm and disarm the factory alarm.

Yessir! I start my car everytime with this beloved toy! Oh and the window is just one option, not only will the pager tell you that the windows are down but will roll them up for you when you leave, and back down when you come back. Any option you can basically think of, a good installer should be able to work with you on tricking out any function. Like my dealer said (Sound Solutions in Chantilly Virginia *The Best!*) its up to you and the installers creativity.

totally untrue. Although there are some that say a car engine shouldnt idle on start up for more than a few minutes to prevent deposit build up. But if you are going to start your freezing cold car and let it run for a few minutes to heat up the inside anyway, then you might as well start it from the warm confort of your house.

I tried my remote starter to see if the seats/mirrors would move back to memory position, but they don't. My friend suggested mayby to take the +12dc output that comes from the remote starter module that unlocks the doors, and somehow splice it to the memory button # 1 . Basically to simulate that you manually push button #1 on the door. I don't know if that would work but who knows?? I know that my remote starter module has 2 sets of contacts on each output....... hmmmm..... I might look deeper into that.

Cheers
