Regarding the touch-screen Navi. in our TL

My car is a 2003 TL Type S with Navi., and as I was operating my navi today, something weird happend. To make the long story short, in middle of my route, I clicked on the menu screen. Since I was no longer going to the destination I had previously set, I wanted to choose "PLAN A NEW TRIP"; however, it kept on selecting the option to the left of it, which is "MINIMIZE FREEWAY". (I did this several times too, so I was not touching the wrong button by accident"). In the end, I just used the control stick to select what I wanted, and now my navi. seems to be fine again. Anyone else here experienced the same problem before? Do I need to get this looked at? I don't know how to make the dealer believe my story since the system seems to be ok at this time.

I would be sure to clean your screen well. I've heard (can't really verify) that the touch function is actually from IR beams that form a grid over the screen itself. Break two beams (one up/down and one left/right), and the computer knows what you're pushing.

If this is true, make sure to get the dark "ring" around the screen clean to make sure you don't have any dirt or dust that might interfere with a beam.

This also indicates that you should make sure you press the screen with only one finger. If you have multiple fingers that you're pushing with you could break multiple beams and confuse the computer.

In my experience if the sun is shining directly on your Navi screen long enough it makes it hard to operate by touch. Was your sunroof open or the sun roof cover open, perhaps?

If you live in SoCal then you know the last couple of days have been extra sunny... so that could be your problem.

My $.02,

V.

I think that's what happend. Indeed, the sun was shining directly at my Navigation screen, and I had my moonroof wide open at the time.

Thanks to you all for replying

Also hot weather affect the touch screen. I've notice the exact same anomolies, and many more.
