Rebuild or Replace Tranny
Last week my Tranny when out. Well after week of check around for price I'm try find out which way would be better for long run. All prices below included installed the tranny.
1. Replace Tranny an get used Transmission from Local Junkyard 6month/7500 $1600
2. Most rebuild has 1year/13,000 mile warranty $2K
3. Honda/Acura Dealer to replace my tranny an give me 2 year/24000 $2700
I'm thinking about doing #3 for now. If i cann't do my 6speed Swap for under 3500.

The one from the dealer is a good price- they want $4000 installed here
and it will have the latest updates and design in case and oil passages and clutches etc- plus Acura warranty on it- Go for it!
Are you in the extended warranty VIN cars? If so -and over the 109k miles- that may be why dealer is cutting you such a good price- goodwill gesture

I've replaced 2 transmissions in two different cars, that I own, in the past year. I am no expert with transmissions.
I did #1 on the 1st car for $1,200.00, as it was 21 years old. Still running strong nearly 1 year later. Turn around time 1 week.
I did #2 on the 2nd car in January this year. No problems either, but did get 1 year warranty on a $1,800.00 rebuild. Turn around time less than 24 hours.
The thing to remember, you are "probably" not getting an actual rebuild. Its just a swap out with a tranny that is already rebuilt.
I'd check to see if #3 is actually a "new" tranny or a "rebuild". If it's a rebuild, you are getting the same as #2. You'd be getting charged more to cover their liability for 2 years instead of one. Think of it as paying $700 for an extended 1 year warranty.

A rebuild at a trans shop will use your original case and replace internals as needed- they buy a kit with belts and clutches and everything in it- use what is needed and pocket the spare parts.
The Dealer rebuilt (you cannot buy NEW in USA) has a NEW DESIGN for the case with better oil passages and built in 2nd gear oil spray bar
So the Dealer/Acura/Factory rebuild shop rebuilt, is actually BETTER than the original design- because of the case/housing upgrade- than just having new parts installed in old case

Kris, wouldn't he need the CL-S ECU for the 6speed? And wouldn't that mean he would need to do the Type-S conversion for that to work? I dunno, just wondering.

And you should also ask that place about other used parts to get them cheaper.

50k on a honda motor is new. they arent even broken in yet. If you can find a manual motor i wouldnt care about the miles. It will be cheaper to do the swap with it compared to a auto motor.
