Rear brake pads

How often shoudl you change your rear brake pads? I only ask because I thought you're supposed to change them rarely, but the dealer told me that my rear pads are wearing out and I have around 1500 miles left. I only have 30000 miles on the car. My front ones were replaced at 16000 miles by the dealer (because of warped rotors). Should I believe the dealer? I really dont have time to prop up the car myself. And I'm not a car technician type.

Were both of yours actually worn out or just what the dealer said?

It all depends on how the car is driven. I know people who have gone 80,000 + mi. on stock rear pads (Not TLs). It would probably be best to get a 2nd opinion from another auto shop or dealer. I have 24,000mi and my pads front and rear are fine, but I don't drive too aggressive.

the dealer told me the same thing, then I went to my tire guy with a tire problem and I had him check the inside and outside pads and he told me I had like 50%. I ended up jumping in on the irotor group buy anyways so changed them anyways. Many mechanics will probably check for free or for a small fee. I think it's worth it before you go get new pads.

oh, and make sure they check the inner and outer pads. the dealer will use the excuse that the inner is wearing and your guy only checked the outer.

I have 78K on my stock rear pads and still have another 1/8"->1/4" after checking yesterday. Both rotors are shiny bright after driving so I know that calipers are still working.
