Rear 9" speaker

Did anyone replace the factory rear 9" speaker on the 99' TL? I've already hooked up an amp to it, but the bass isn't all that great comming from the Bose 9" speaker. So I was wondering what kind of speaker can I get to replace it without much modifications, cause I don't think there are any 9" aftermarker speakers that can be found. Thanks!

by replacing the headunit and adding a amp to the sub the bass improved 10 fold. the problem with the sub is its a free air sub, so finding one of those that will actually sound good is going to be hard. and finding one to fit in that location is even harder. teh torsion bars for the trunk lid are real close making it hard to fit a sub in that location. kicker maked a RMB8 free air that many have dropped in with a little gain in bass. your best bet is to put a sub in the trunk in a box if your looking for alot more bass

I put the Infinity Basslink in the trunk. It takes up only about 1ft of space and with the remote, I can pump the bass pretty high.

The Basslink works great. I installed one in my trunk, too.

With the Infinity BassLink, did you guys shut off the rear 9" speaker?

Also, would putting in a 8" woofer in replace of the rear speaker be any good or a very bad idea?

You can replace the speaker, but I don't know of any that will simply drop in to the factory opening. There are a bunch of subs that can play in an IB config ("free-air")...just check the speaker specs. You probably will have to do some minor modifications to get an aftermarket sub to fit. 'Brewboy' had done something similar; he made an enclosure for the new sub and it bolted up right under where the sub is mounted. Essentially its a sub in a sealed box that is mounted where the factory sub would be. He has a post HERE in a thread I started.

If you're really adventurous, you can try what I'm doing. I'm in the process of replacing the factory 8" sub with 2 12's on the rear deck (cut out the rear deck and made a new one). I started posting some intial pictures HERE

If you absolutely don't want to do any modifying, then you are really limited to what you can do.

Does the Infinity Basslink require its own amp?

Forgot my last post. I found out it has a built in amp.

But does anyone have a picture of their Infinity Basslink installed? I jsut want a general idea on where should it be installed for maximum performance. Thanks!

I'll try to get a picture of it tonight. I put it just behind the rear seat pointing across the car width. Before I had it screwed into the floor it would slide into the back under the trunk and rattle the trunk. Not good.

Yea it would be great if you can get some pics up. Also since I currently have an amp installed pumping up my speakers and going to get the Infinity Basslink speaker, would there be a need for extra power source like a capacitor?

i replaced it with a Infinity Perfect 10 and a JL 250/1, kept everything else stock. sounds pretty good considering and has gotten lots of "sounds great" compliments so far...

no cap needed on mine, the lights never dim at all...
