So i bought an 03TL 6disk radio off another memeber to throw in my 99TL. Got a pretty good deal $90 shipped. I get the package and open it up and i get goose bumps, I AM EXCITED! I grab my tools and my digi cam (i planned to make a DIY) and write the radio code he emailed me on my hand.
After dismantling the dash i plug in the radio and put in the code 2xxx6, no dice. try again and again, no dice.
So i call the guy, he says he bought the car used and that was the code he had.
I call acura 800-382-2238. Lady says try unplugging the radio, no dice. She says shut the radio off, hold 1and6 AND turn radio on, now we're getting somewhere, i got the S/N Usxxxx Lxxxx.
Call the dealer and they give me the right code 3XXX5, BINGO. BUT the radio says it has 6 disks already in it and when i press cd it gives me CHEC ErEl.
Call the guy back he says i dunno what to tell you it worked when i had it. I tell him to make a claim with UPS and call me back, no call.
So i make the claim with UPS and vent on acurazine.com

It might be a jammed CD. See the following thread for some simple fixes to try:

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/2003-acura-tl-dash-cd-changer-question-609521/

Good luck.

the cd door doesnt move when i hit load or eject, but i can hear the motor inside working.
i did take a small screw driver and tilt it open to try and look inside but i didnt see a cd.
I noticed that the display says its full but like i said i didnt see any cd's.
After all that mess i did call the guy and tell him i was suspicious of his selling tactics on the BM, and he just plays dumb.

you payed $90 shipped...that right there should have raised a red flag.

if its to good to be true...it usually is.

i had a similar thing happen in sept...exceopt i got taken for $160 shipped....when i got it, it did the same thing yours is doing....so i found the guys house, called and spoke to his mommy (he lived at home)...she got pissed, and made him give me a full refund, and pay an extra $20 for my time, and trouble.

it is almost impossible to find a used/working oem, 6 disc, bose headunit for our car's...im giving up and going aftermarket.

Have you tried car-part.com? That's a search engine for salvage yards across the US:

It's pretty awesome.

As a recent owner of an '02 TL...I erred because I had never checked to see if the CD player worked. When I actually tried to play some music, I got the same error. The display also said that there were 6 discs in there. I don't know exactly what I did to make them come out, but I just kept fudging with the load, eject, and sticking a small knife in. Til all of a sudden it just spit out 4 discs and said that 2 were empty. One CD had a paper label which was all wrinkled...that probably was the culprit. The funny thing is I was fudging with it some more and the 2 empty slots apparently had discs in them as well.

I have one that works great. But I'm an audiophile and wanted to put my previous system in my TL-S. So if anyone wants to buy it, I'll let it go for $130 shipped + Paypal. I will test the unit before I ship it out just to make sure everything is in working order. If it doesn't work, I'll refund your money.

What exactly is it about his selling tactics that makes you suspicious? Is it that the radio security code wasn't correct? If so, it could just be that the previous owner replaced the radio and didn't update the security code info.

On the malfunctioning radio itself, it might just be that it was mishandled during shipment.

Did you try the "bang on the dash" tip in the link I posted above? If not, try that before buying another radio.

Good luck!

why was i suspicious? it was just the vibe he was giving me. i'm not new to this planet and i'm not from some small town where everybody knows your name. he was so reassuring during the buying process. was 100% sure it worked. He knew that the code worked. then when i tell him the problems i'm having his attitude changed.
come on seriously, who here hasnt had to put there radio code in atleast once?
as for misshandling of the radio during shipping? thats a stretch. why would it show 6cd's in the thing? i've read the other threads about the ErEl code. HELL, people sell there radios out of totalled wrecks and they still work.
this guy either A.) got his hands on a spare radio somehow or B.) knew he was selling me junk
all i can say is karama is a bitch!!!

^^ thats not necessarily true. I've sold things I KNOW were good. an Ipod for example. Sell it to someone, now all of a sudden it bricked. What else can you say? If you dont have it in front of you you can't help someone with a problem you never had with it. I would be short, too.

I got burned (literally) on an Alpine 7998 a bunch of years ago. Bought it, installed it, and tested it before I put it in the dash. Soon as I played a CD, the radio CAUGHT FIRE. I emailed the guy and gave him hell, but I lost $400 in the ordeal. Sometimes sh just happens.

UPDATE: i bought a second radio. this time for $130. unlike last time, the radio code i was given worked. thats a plus.
But when it came to playing cd's CHEC Er-E1!!!! YOUVE GOT TO BE FRICKIN KIDDING ME!
It made all kinds of noises but after an hour of messing with the thing i got no where, I'm really tired of pulling the counsel apart. And i'm really freakin tired of pissing away money on BS head units.
If anyone tries to ship one of these things please for the love of god make sure you jam pack the box your sending it in with styrofoam. When you shake the box you should not be able to hear to contents moving around.

Looks like I'm doomed to never have a 6disk and never play burns.

Wow , sorry to read about the problems with your second unit.

If you buy another one, consider one with a replacement warranty.

Many of the sellers on car-part.com offer warranties.

Get one from your local junk yard I got a mint one from a wrecked 03. Although I paid 150 for it it comes with a 3 month warranty with money back guarantee or replacement. It's sometimes better to search locally than to order online and not know what you are getting. When I got my Unit the guy at the shop powered it up and played CD's in front of me as well as giving me the radio code upfront. Go to your local junkyard and ask them for an 02-03 radio if they don't have they should have a database on their computers and direct you to another yard in the city that has one, plus u can always negotiate!!

I had that error code about a year ago. Some banging of the console while it was trying to work did the trick (I had to disconnect, wait, reconnect the battery and while the thing whiirrred I banged it around... the trick is to get the motor going!) Once it get that code, the code latches and disables any motion of the CD changer.
Things were merry until about a month ago.
Luckily I noticed the jam just before I started my Bluetooth/stereo integration, so when I had the dash apart and had the radio out, I took the head unit out and removed the top cover, exposing the trays. I messed around a bit in there and figured out how the trays should be oriented. I was very careful and took my sweet time with it open, being careful I didnt really ruin much more. I managed to get the CDs out and was able to test it before buttoning it back up (top lid MUST be on if you want to eject CD's!).
It works.

So it is possible to fix it yourself.

So far so good, but like I mentioned, I had the center console apart anyway to do my Bluetooth install, so it was a minor setback.

Good luck :-)

Its funny same problem I had with mines.....the first problem was when my battery terminal got loose. Then I had to enter the dam radio code again, which was a pain in the ass because you need to take the whole crapp out and make sure the antenna is unplugged before you enter the code, did that everything was fine, then a few weeks later ERROR starts appearing once in a while, it made noises but no progress, as much as I loved the 6disc, it was getting to annoying to bother with, so it had to go.

^^^ You odnt have to take the whole radio out to unlpug and plug back in the antenna. Just remove the driver's side panel to the dash and sqeeze ur hand behind the radio.

Also these radios are junk. They are all getting old. You really have to mess around with it. I hit a bump one day and couldnt get my radio to work for almost a month. You really have to try all methods to get it to work. Chances are the radios arent busted. You just have to work on it. You really cant blame the seller because it may have worked when he sent it out. Thats really the risk you take when you buy something used without a warranty. Good luck with everything,

I had the same problem but my car was out of warranty according to the dealership... so I just went out and got an aftermarket deck.... Trust me you will save yourself so much head che compared to trying to find an OEM one and have it working without any type of ER-E1 error codes prior.

one thing I did do while it was apart was LIGHTLY grease some of the areas that already had grease or had contact points that seems kinda sticky.
There are some small guides for the plates and such and they seem to often get stuck and jerked around off the tray guides. I tried to take close up pics of the areas where the pin guides seemed off and I corrected and lubed.

Unfortunately, since I did the MT605 install, I use my phone's mp3 player which holds about 80% of my CD collection. http://direct.motorola.com/ens/carkits/learn-T605.html
So I dont use my changer at all anymore :-P.
