1.Just use a small flat head screwdriver that will fit the diameter of the hex screw, dont worry about that stud in the center, that screw isn't on tight enough to give you any trouble.
2.Just unscrew the ballast, then you should be able to remove the whole thing (ballast and wire)

there is supposed to be a white prong, if i could remember, dis-connect it, then you could take out the wire, if you got a pic, that would help too.

and to unscrew the security torx nut...take a pair of channel locks..or pliers..
and grab the nut by the outer rim...otherwise...go buy a security torx driver set...

Dammn bro, this one is completely different than an '03. But if that rubber plug thing isn't one piece then it would be hard to get it out. i persume you already tried unplugging it from the ballast and feeding it the oppsite direction. (from left to right of this pic). I hate to say it, but your probably gonna have to use some force, or even cut a small part of it, then use some silicone to seal it back up when everything is complete.

If you could get it off, it would be a good idea to take them off b/c you might accidentally burn your hand or something. And a word of advise. Keep looking at the time while baking. Even a minute too long can melt your housing. (trust me, i found that out the hard way)

Yea the DYI says not to open and close, but I bet not many people here totally agree with all the DYI's. Basically do check ups on it, After the first 4 mins. then continue every 2 min.
I dont hurt to do check ups, i think the DYI was worried about heat escape, but how much heat can escape if you only peek to see if everything is ok.

You got clear dissufesr for the 99-01 headloghts? Pics? Where? They used to only make the ones for the newer style of headlight, when did these come up for sale? Pics please...

I've got a set of set of security bits that isn't sold to the public.... it's for elevators, fire alarms, etc.... not primairly for electronics but it works fine for me. For those without these types of bits, and don't want to go out to buy one bit that is rather expensive (depending on where you get it), if you have a torx bit that fits the headlight torx screw but the pin is preventing you from actually grabbing the screw, there is a way you "pop" out the pin... You can use a tiny slot driver and a hammer and you can knock out the pin with a cople little hits, then the regualr torx driver will fit. I've been stuck on a job and seen it done, we didn't have a security set on us at the time and we weren't going to wait a day for the "proper" driver.

Ok.. you DO NOT want to paint the whole reflective "shiney" plastic part.. Take a look at the light in your pic, we'll call the side reflector area chamber one, the front signal would be chamber two, the running lights and the night lights are in the other chambers three and four (numbers go from left to right).. Both the running lights (high beams) and the night lights (HID) have a reflective part around the bulb which is NOT attached to the part you are going to paint. good so far? The blinker (turnsignal) needs the reflective part to shine it's light (just like every other bulb) howver the blinker's reflective part is attached to the part you are going to paint. So if you paint the whole thing you won't have any light coming from your blinkers. You'll have to put an old shirt or rag into the blinker area, and tape around the opening. The goal is to make sure you get no paint on the reflective area around the blinker bulb. Most people paint the silver under the diffuser but it's up to you on that one. I'd leave it if you have a diffuser to put on top, it would give off a better relfection of the blinker.

was that a good enough explanation? any other questions?

I paint everything but not behind the diffuser just used 3M masking paper tape, don't forget to clean it before you paint and tape.i got a tickle because of the reflecter and then i have to redo everything to put them back (small one)so you decide what to do.

Yep masking tape will work.. you just want to make sure you are able to curve it along the lines, if it's 2 inches wide you should cut it so it's thinner.

So where did you get the clear diffusers? I've got to open up my headlights, remove the old black silicone (used to be Tatewaki's lights and he used black silicone, when I cleared my lights I blacked them out to see how it would look on silver, we ended up swapping) and put in clear silicone. Clear diffusers were not available when I opened up my lights last time, do you have a link or picture of it?
