Do you guys know how loud is the CAI? Is it at about 4500RPMs that it has that sound?

the statement about it being loud when it hits VTEC range is not really correct....

it kicks in EXACTLY at 4500 and VTEC starts to kick in at right around 3500

I had the Xephyr CAI w/ bypass, I switched to the AEM CAI w/ bypass last night - the AEM is louder then the Xephyr one, sounds sweet!

It really has nothing to do with what rpm your in (not to the extent people think) It is more determined by how much the throttle body is opened, for example if you only have the gas peddle depressed half way but you are at 4500 rpm, it is not nearly as loud, or even not loud at all, but if your approaching 4500 rpm with a wide open throttle, it will be screaming, but it is a pleasant scream...

true, I never thought to explain it that way

plus I'm always flooring it

you can get to 6k rpms without it being loud, I just never do

I always thought that VTEC kicks in at 4800 while the butterfly valve opens up at 3800. If you listen very closely, there is 3 different noise levels when you WOT it from a low RPM.

i can't remember the specifics, but it's something like a 2 stage VTEC, the first stage kicking in around 3500 and the second kicking in higher...

maybe someone else can reply that knows the specifics, I'm curious now

Mark,

You will fall in love with the sound when VTEC kicks in, not to mention that it makes your TL faster.

The first thing that opens up at 3500 rpms is the the dual stage throttle body...it helps maintain the broad flat torque band...the VTEC kicks in at 4800rpms...not to be a ****...but you guys should look at the corporate site too for this info.

So basically the more gas flow the louder it will be? To bad we dont have a gas flow guage like the beamers, those are cool.
