Question

I have second thoughts now that I have read all the "tranny failure" posts. I am planning to buy an 02-03 TL that has over 100k. Should I buy it? One more thing, is the TL a dependable car?

It's a Honda product. The overall reliability and quality of the car will surpass any american, and most other products out there. Any car will give you problems when you get over 100k miles on the car. Minor things to big things, that just seems to be the time where cars start needing maintenace. Over 100k on an 02/03 seems very high to me. Try what Blazin_TL said and find one with much lower miles, there are plenty out there.

With 100k miles on it, if something does go wrong with the tranny they wont replace it...even if its under a RECALL. If you BICH about it ALOT They'll probably cover the Tranny itself but not the labor...and labor aint cheap!!!

Just to clear things up, the tranny itself ISNt under a recall. there was a recall to add a oiljet kit. The tranny itself has an extended warranty which is much different than a recall.

If >100K miles, look at the '99, which has the 4-speed auto and none of the transmission troubles of the 2000 and later models. I traded mine in on an RL a few months back with 125K miles, and it still ran like it was almost new. Never had a lick of engine/transmission trouble.
