Puddle of fluid.....

hey guys...when i parked my acura today, went to a resturant...came out 1 hr after and noticed a puddle under the front hood of my car...didn't take a good look at the puddle, if its actually just water or oil...but noticed this is the first time in weeks i turn on the AC during driving....so was that just condensation from the AC, or it's some nasty leakage (oil, brake fluid)

Our TLS have very powerful A/C units and as such they are known for leaving large condensation puddles behind. Most likely it's just water, but check your other fluids just in case.

Hey thx for the reply mod...i actually checked again...i backed up the car in my garage...and there was this small trail of fluid as i backed up...then a med large size (same as before) puddle at the same spot of the car again...put a piece of white cardboard on it..and the fluid is totally clear (not sure if its oily) but doesn't have any distinct smell....is it water then? or could be some harmful fluid?

Don't worry to much its only water...my 03 tls leaves big puddles near the right front wheel from the a/c condensation. However, if you touch it and its greasy/oily then i'd take a closer look to see if anythig else is leaking.

Hondas have borderline adequate A/C units. But I suppose in Western Mass. they seem better.

Yeah my A/C is horrible. It barely keeps the car comfortable in the Texas heat. It's been my experience that most Hondas have crappy A/Cs.

What are you talking about my 2000TL A/C works very well. I am here in Washington D.C. The temps here can hit mid to upper 90s quite a bit. It also can be humid. Our temps have not been that hot this year yet. I think this week it will get up there for a change with dry weather. I have never had a problem with any of my HONDA cars A/C units. I use A/C alot of the time do to allergy so the unit is always in good working order. The TL does have a powerful unit & puts out alot of water when you stop. When I first got my car over 3yrs ago I thought something was wrong with the car also. I was concerned about all the clear fliud under the car when I parked it. I put my finger in it & smelled it I talked with the guys on our old old TL forum. At that time most of the guys had the 1999TL they said it was water from A/C. This is what I suspected but it was a whol lot more then my 1990 & 1994 ACCORDs put out. My car also sits out in the hot sun all day because I don't have a garage so it gets hot. The A/C cools down quickly just like ACURA claims.

When you live up north like Washington DC, you're really not testing the limits of an A/C. Move to Texas and then you'll see what I mean. No Honda I've ever been in has ever cooled as well as a Ford.

The puddle is just from the a/c condensation so don't worry about it.

As far as the a/c working good in our TL, mine works like a focking freezer. This is one of the best a/c system out there.

The temps I see for some parts of Texas are only in the mid to high 90s today. I know some parts get up into the 100s very easy. We will get up to the 90s this week for the first time this year. But the TL A/C will cool down to 60 degrees. This should be plenty cool for anybody. The catalog for the 1999 & 2000 TL says it has enough capacity to cool a mid sized house. I have been in many higher end FORD models. This was the 2002 Lincoln LS & 2002 TOWN CAR in hot 98 degree Temps. They did not seem to cool any better than my TL. You guys that are having problems with cooling are you reading the owners manual for Max cooldown procedures. My car is NighthawkBlack/Ebony color & they say dark cars can get real hot. As I said my car sits in direct hot sun most of the day. All I have is 45% tint side windows & 50% rear+ covercraft UV sunshield for the front windshield. It sure has hit the 100+ mark degree here in DC the last 3yrs I have owned my car. I also have been in the heat of N.C. & S.C. with my car.

When the TL was redesigned for 99, the climate control system received critical acclaim!

When my outside temperature gauge says 100+, I am nice and cool inside!
