problem with vtec

heyy guys wats up. well this week i have had trouble with my car especially when flooring it. the vtec more or less hesitates and sometimes it doesnt kick in. my guess is getting an oil change first of all because i havent had one for 7k miles. prolly gonna seafoam it before anyways but do the tls have like a screen (spool valve) that could also be affecting it? thnks in advance

Hmmm. VTEC solenoid? Spark plugs? Seafoam and an oil change would be a good start tho. 7k miles?!

You dont need to change your oil except every 7,500 miles.

I usually change my oil every 7,500 to 8,000 miles. Many members wait until 10,000 (or more). Synthetic doesn't break down as quickly as dino.

Check the oil level. If it is low VTEC will not engage.

(To Yao) 2000 miles is a ridiculous oil change interval. 7500 miles should be the minimum considering you're using synthetic. Big waste of money and contributing to higher gas prices. Oil companies love people like you.

My experience has been it doesn't kick in with low oil.

As for change intervals. 7500 + with today's oil. Syn can go even further.

Two of my neighbors are chevron employees, well one left and started his own business. Needless to say these two change their oil every 10-15k. They have informed me that with todays additives and better built motors oil simply lasts longer. Maybe too long...

FYI after 4000 miles on the current oil it's only slightly discolored.

More changes are not better, your oil pan will need to be replaced sooner.

i use synthetic oil and i changed it at 122,500, and im at 129,300 im just about due for my oil change.. if you use regular oil then you should change it every 3,500-4,000k miles. if you go and spend extra money on using synthetic oil then it will last you longer and cheaper in the end.. so in the end its worth it.. changing it every 2k miles is ridiculous

^^^^^ Synthetic oil may last that long, but not the oil filter. The oil filter will clog up the same whether you use regular oil or synthetic oil. So what people usually do it to change the oil filter every 4000k miles, but reuse the old synthetic oil.

You are both mistaken about the oil and filter. You got the 3500 or 4000 mile number from oil change places.

According to my Acura Manual for my 2000 TL using regular oil
Every 7500 replace oil
Every 15,000 replace oil and filter

Once you drive a 10k or more the amount of melt that gets in the oil is simply caught by the filter.

If you ran synthetic 15k and did your oil change you'd be fine. The syn can last that long and the filter was intended to go the distance syn or regular oil.

Most people change their oil too often.

You're not doing anything for your motor by changing it sooner. In all likelihood you'll end up stripping the pan with all the extra drains and need it replaced.

Ohh, I was gonna say, how the hell does your oil pan get ruined by oil changes? Yes people need to obe careful with overtighting the drain bolt or you will damage the pan.

yeah, people think they need to get it really tight to stop it from coming undone. oh well. Hopefully people will change it a little less often and save some cash and oil.
