Question Please help: Odometer replacement

Guys I think i need to replace my odometer display also i think known as the (front panel comb). The display is too dim. During the day i cannot even see the "outside temperature figure.

Do you think the if i get the odometer replaced I will have to start with the 00000 odometer reading. Where is the mileage saved ? The dealer told me that it is in the odometer that would be replaced and so i would start from 00000 again, which I think sucks :yack:

Please help !!

remember that if you replace it and your odo changes, your title will reflect this also by saying 'actual mileage on odo is incorrect' or something to that nature.

i started a thread like this awhile back. The milage is stored solely on the odometer. You don't even have to replace the whole thing, just pull out that odometer (LCD cluster) and replace it. Your milage WILL be at zero if you put in the new one. You'll just have to live with it and report the actual milage of the vehicle whenever you sell the car (or inspections). A lot of folks will jump in and starts barking away that milage is stored in the ECU and all that bullsh*t...well, they're know next to nothing and talking out of their a** most of the time..and what comes out is just that..sh*t.
I swap back and forth this two cluster to help keep my milage low for warranty purposes.

OK i just wanted to let ya know, I had this same problem, the dealer replaced the whole unit, and yes it will be turned to zero, but the dealer will set the mileage back to what it was. Just take it to the dealer, they will replace it under warrenty. Took a day.

That's what I thought, too... Dealer should be able to programe the digital readout for odometer....confront with the dealer and ask them to set the readout on new odometer to the correct mileage...

When they program the milage, have them put less miles on it. :p

thats a pretty scary proposal, tell the dealer to reprogram the milage to reflect the current milage because the main panel was replaced.
DId U ever think that if the dealer was able to reprogram it that way, that nothing could stop them or others from reprogramming them backwards?

I know for a fact that you cant reprogram the main panel, and to confront the dealer with your demand would make you look like a total ass.
